Role Overview
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the platforms behind software delivery, edge and L7 networking, platform access, and the application-facing parts of our observability stack. Alpaca operates a follow-the-sun model to keep critical systems covered around the clock. This role represents the team's presence in the APAC region, supporting and owning the platform in your timezone.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Engineering Teams: Troubleshoot problems across the stack, advise teams on platform tooling, and participate in the regional support rotation.
- Follow-The-Sun Incident Response: Watch and triage alerts, declare/join incidents, lead structured debugging, and drive blameless post-mortems.
- Manage CI/CD & Delivery Pipelines: Own the path a change takes to production using GitHub Actions, Helm, and Argo CD across multiple clusters and regions.
- Operate High-Traffic Infrastructure: Run API gateway and edge infrastructure serving hundreds of millions of daily requests with high availability and safety.
- Maintain Platform Tooling: Operate core internal tools (Grafana, Sentry, Teleport, Metabase, Atlantis) as production-grade internal services.
- Advance Platform-as-a-Product: Build self-serve capabilities and golden paths for engineering to ship code quickly and safely.
- Drive End-to-End Improvements: Lead platform initiatives from initial problem definition to production operations.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in a DevOps, Platform/Infrastructure, or SRE role operating large-scale, high-availability, high-performance systems in production.
- Kubernetes: Deep production experience across multiple Kubernetes clusters (upgrades, debugging, day-to-day operations) and packaging with Helm.
- Infrastructure as Code: Strong Terraform skills with multi-environment codebases, GitOps practices, and least-privilege security design.
- CI/CD & GitOps: Proven track record building CI/CD pipelines at scale (e.g., GitHub Actions) and continuous delivery using Argo CD or similar.
- Cloud Experience: Hands-on production experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), ideally GKE.
- Networking: Solid L7 networking fundamentals (load balancing, DNS, TLS, HTTP routing) and ability to debug the full request path.
- Mindset & Collaboration: Platform-as-a-Product mindset, ability to work asynchronously, and willingness to participate in a Follow-The-Sun on-call rotation in APAC or EMEA hours.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with Policy-as-Code (OPA/Conftest, Checkov, tflint) and IaC quality tools.
- Expertise managing Terraform state, module registries, and versioning across multiple teams.
- Experience with secrets management (HashiCorp Vault, OpenBao) and internal PKI/mTLS lifecycle management.
- Experience with developer platform frameworks (Backstage, Tilt).
- Working proficiency in Go for automation and tooling.
- Strong Linux (Debian/Ubuntu) and container fundamentals (Docker/containerd).
- Compliance and security experience in regulated fintech, trading, or brokerage environments (SOC 2).
