About the Role

Join a product engineering team building reliable SaaS in the Atlassian and enterprise collaboration space. Quality is a shared responsibility within engineering, not owned in isolation.

As a Senior QA Engineer, you will focus on Playwright automation (UI and API) and leverage AI tools daily to design tests, debug failures, and maintain test suites. You will drive testing depth, including regression, critical paths, and clear risk signaling before release, working closely with developers and Product Owners.

This is a hands-on Individual Contributor (IC) role with no people management responsibilities. If you thrive on strong automation, pragmatic AI, and shipping stable releases in a remote-first environment, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain automated UI, API, and integration tests using Playwright with JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.
  • Utilize AI-assisted tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate test design, refactoring, and failure analysis, ensuring validation of output and adherence to company data-handling guidelines.
  • Plan and execute functional, regression, smoke, and critical-path testing, validating against acceptance criteria and flagging quality risks proactively.
  • Design and maintain robust test data approaches (fixtures, isolation, environments) to ensure automated suites remain reliable in CI.
  • Contribute to test layering strategies, determining appropriate coverage at API/component level versus full E2E, and aligning with engineering on scope and maintainability.
  • Run and maintain automated suites within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, GitLab CI, Jenkins), focusing on improving stability, reporting, and triage of failing builds.
  • Collaborate in agile ceremonies with engineering and product teams, documenting scenarios and defects for swift resolution.
  • Actively work to reduce flaky tests, enhance test code structure, and apply the test pyramid and risk-based prioritization in daily delivery.
  • Test REST/GraphQL APIs, validate contracts and payloads, and verify data using SQL or equivalent tools when necessary.

What You'll Need

  • 5+ years of experience in QA, with a strong focus on test automation as an individual contributor.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining UI and API tests with Playwright using JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python.
  • Daily, practical experience with AI-assisted development for QA work and the ability to critically review AI-generated tests.
  • Solid API and integration testing expertise, including authentication, mocking/stubbing, and debugging across services.
  • Practical experience managing test data and environments for automation (isolation, fixtures, stability in parallel/CI runs).
  • Hands-on CI/CD experience running automated tests in pipelines and working with Docker.
  • Strong testing fundamentals (test pyramid, risk-based testing, agile methodologies, defect lifecycle) and experience with Jira or similar tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills for distributed collaboration.
  • Experience enhancing quality on long-lived, evolving products, beyond just greenfield projects.
