About the Role

As a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will join a small, high-leverage team responsible for the platform that enables all Buffer engineers to ship. Your work directly impacts millions of creators by ensuring our infrastructure is fast, reliable, and anti-fragile.

Key Focus Areas

• Keeping the lights on: Improve CI/CD pipelines, ship boring deploys, and turn incidents into learning opportunities.
• Modernizing the foundation: Evolve our infrastructure using tools like KEDA and Argo Rollouts, and integrate AI into daily workflows.
• Developer Experience: Treat Buffer engineers as customers by evolving developer tooling and documentation.

What You'll Be Working On

• Reliability: Maintain EKS, ArgoCD, and AWS infrastructure. Manage distributed on-call rotations (roughly one week per quarter).
• Progressive Delivery: Implement Argo Rollouts with reliable rollback paths.
• Developer Tools: Build and maintain internal tools like BIBEs (Buffer Isolated Build Environments) and CLI tooling.
• Operational Efficiency: Use AI to automate low-risk workflows and reduce toil.
• Lifecycle Management: Drive upgrades for runtimes (Node.js, Python), Kubernetes, and Terraform-managed resources.
• Economics: Optimize cloud spend and observability via Datadog and log filtering.

Helpful Skills and Experience

• Core Experience: Proven background as an Infrastructure Engineer, SRE, or DevOps engineer.
• Kubernetes: Deep experience running production K8s, Helm charts, and autoscaling.
• Cloud/IaC: Strong proficiency in AWS and Terraform.
• CI/CD: Experience with GitOps and building reliable rollback paths.
• Developer Tooling: Experience building CLIs or internal developer environments.
• Mindset: Pragmatic, async-first, and comfortable with modern AI-assisted development tools.

Tech Stack

• Cloud: AWS, GCP, Cloudflare.
• Orchestration: Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, KEDA, ArgoCD.
• Observability: Datadog, Sentry, Incident.io.
• Languages: Node.js, TypeScript, Python, PHP (legacy).
