About Buzz Solutions
Buzz Solutions builds visual AI for the power grid. Our PowerAI platform turns utility inspection imagery — drone, helicopter, and fixed camera — into operational intelligence, analyzing images in under a second. We help some of the largest utilities in North America catch failing components before they become outages.
About the Role
We are seeking our first Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE). This is a hands-on technical partner role embedded with customers and our go-to-market team, acting as a bridge between Sales, Product, and Engineering. You will be in the systems, writing integrations, and working directly with customer engineers.
Roughly 80% of your time is customer-facing (pre-sales scoping and deployment), while 20% is focused on building reusable deployment tooling and AI agents.
What You'll Do
Pre-sales Partnership
- Technical Partner: Join discovery calls to understand customer workflows and data realities.
- Scope & Size: Define integration efforts, data requirements, and timelines before contracts are signed.
- Pilots: Run proofs of value using the customer's own imagery and assets.
- Technical Advocacy: Clear technical objections, including architecture, security, and data-handling scrutiny.
Deployment & Implementation
- End-to-End Ownership: Manage configuration, integration, validation, and handoff.
- Integration: Connect PowerAI to customer systems like asset management, GIS, and inspection data pipelines.
- AI Workflows: Use agentic workflows to compress delivery timelines.
- Expansion: Identify and scope new use cases within existing accounts.
- Feedback Loop: Translate field patterns into clear, reproducible requirements for core engineering.
Product & Internal Enablement
- Tooling: Build and ship reusable deployment tooling and AI agents.
- Leverage: Package recurring customer needs into assets that accelerate future deployments.
What You'll Bring
- 6+ years in solutions engineering, forward deployed engineering, or professional services at a technical product company.
- Pre-sales Expertise: Proven experience partnering with account executives through the full sales cycle.
- Technical Fluency: Strong Python or TypeScript skills; experience integrating third-party systems via APIs, webhooks, and data pipelines.
- AI/LLM Experience: Hands-on experience building with LLMs and agentic systems (prompting, tool use, retrieval, orchestration).
- Enterprise Credibility: Ability to navigate security reviews and hold technical discussions with skeptical stakeholders.
- Communication: Excellent ability to explain technical tradeoffs to both non-technical directors and peer engineers.
- Travel: Willingness to travel roughly 40% of the time for customer sites and team onsites.
