About Camunda
Camunda is the enterprise platform for agentic orchestration, enabling organizations to coordinate AI agents, people, and systems across complex, end-to-end business processes. With built-in governance, auditability, and human oversight, Camunda gives enterprises the control they need to move AI from pilots to production — safely and at scale. Trusted by over 700 organizations worldwide, including 9 of top 10 US banks, Camunda helps enterprises boost operational efficiency, accelerate time-to-value, and deliver better customer experiences.
Fully remote and global, we are transforming into an AI-first organization built on our own platform. We use Agentic AI to automate, orchestrate intelligent processes, and elevate human contribution across every team.
About the Role
Camunda Hub is where enterprises run Camunda at scale. From Hub, they manage their clusters and tenants, decide who can do what, and roll changes out across the whole organization.
We’re looking for a Senior Product Builder to own the backend and architecture that lets Hub manage a whole fleet of clusters. Your first focus will be the mechanism that sends access, secret, tenant, and license changes out to every connected cluster and brings deployments, health, and audit records back. From there, you’ll shape Hub’s foundations: its event model, service boundaries, data model, and failure/upgrade behavior.
You’ll join a new two-person pod in our remote-first team with real ownership to build AI-first from written specs through to production.
What You Will Do
- Take over Hub's fleet propagation mechanism from the team building its first version, expanding it to handle access, secrets, tenants, licenses, and custom roles.
- Write concise design documents for foundational changes, conduct async team reviews, and convert designs into shipped, tested code.
- Design Hub's failure states and resilience: offline clusters, partial failures, Hub outages, and cluster adoption/detachment.
- Build data paths from clusters back to Hub, starting with deployment inventory, health, audit records, and license status.
- Design Hub's first event and webhook mechanism so administrators and agents can react to changes instead of polling.
- Participate in pod rotations, Hub on-call duties, and mentor other builders through code reviews, guidelines, and contract tests.
What You Will Bring
- Experience building and operating mission-critical backend production systems.
- Ability to drive ambiguous problems into clear designs, plans, and shipped code.
- Strong product judgment for technical users and API design.
- Clear, concise written communication suited for asynchronous remote workflows.
- Thorough consideration for edge cases, failures, and system resiliency.
Must Haves
- Experience designing and shipping control planes or state distribution systems (outbox/event-log patterns, idempotent apply, versioning, retries, drift reconciliation).
- Senior backend engineering expertise in Java (API design, relational data models, multi-tenant SaaS services) plus hands-on Helm and Kubernetes experience for self-managed installations.
- Software architecture and failure analysis capabilities (partial failure handling, blast radius management, consistency trade-offs, distributed system debugging, on-call experience).
- Track record of treating platform APIs as products and leading technical alignment across teams.
- Experience building AI-first from written specifications and rigorous AI output verification.
Nice to Haves
- Familiarity with Kubernetes operators or GitOps tools (e.g., Argo CD).
- Exposure to OIDC, SCIM, permission models, secret managers, or licensing systems.
- Experience with Camunda 8 or other workflow/orchestration engines.
- Basic frontend skills to build simple UIs on top of backend features.
