About the Role
This role is a Staff-level individual contributor position within the Security Engineering team, focused on Coalition Control, a security platform that helps protect our policyholders from cyber crime. You’ll own critical backend services end-to-end, have broad autonomy to shape technical direction, and serve as a technical multiplier for the broader engineering team. You’ll also have access to leading AI tools to accelerate development.
Responsibilities
- Ship product fast: Work with Product, Design, and Engineering to turn high-level product goals into iterative plans, shape scope, and contribute to development in a full-stack capacity with depth and expertise in backend.
- Strengthen the platform: Own the technical vision, architecture, and expansion of the backend systems powering Coalition Control, while contributing to other Coalition Security Products.
- Hold a high bar for engineering craft: Raise standards for code, code reviews, testing, and reliability, leveraging AI-assisted workflows to build faster and reduce toil.
- Unblock and elevate the team: Guide other engineers through architectural trade-offs, provide thoughtful yet speedy code reviews, and share knowledge across the organization.
Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience as a backend engineer designing and building distributed systems and cloud-based services in production.
- Demonstrated technical leadership, including influencing architecture, setting technical standards, enabling other engineers, and collaborating effectively across teams.
- Strong proficiency with AI workflows, Python/FastAPI, TypeScript/Node.js, or a similar modern backend language and framework. Experience with React.js is a plus.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and maintaining APIs, as well as integrating with third-party APIs or platforms.
- Solid understanding of security concepts and practices; experience in a cybersecurity domain is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and a practical, outcome-oriented approach to problem-solving.
Compensation & Pay Ranges
Base salary ranges in Canadian geographic markets:
- Alberta, British Columbia & Ontario: $176,000 CAD – $226,000 CAD / year
- All other Canadian locations: $158,400 CAD – $208,400 CAD / year
Pay within these ranges is determined based on relevant skills, experience, education, and geographic location.
