About Coalition
Coalition is the world's first Active Insurance provider designed to help prevent digital risk before it strikes. Founded in 2017, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance coverage and innovative cybersecurity tools to help businesses manage and mitigate potential cyberattacks.
Opportunities to make an impact with bold thinking are real—and happening daily at Coalition.
About the Role
Coalition’s global Cyber Portfolio Underwriting (CPU) function sets underwriting direction, authority and governance for Coalition’s cyber and technology E&O portfolio worldwide. As our capacity partnerships and international footprint grow, the volume of underwriting decisions that require portfolio-level review is growing with them.
The Underwriting Lead owns that decision flow in North American hours. The role is responsible for timely, well-reasoned and well-documented referral decisions, and for turning the patterns in those decisions into better guidelines, authorities and systems.
Responsibilities
- Own the CPU referral queue in North American business hours, clearing referrals within service levels and within delegated authority, and escalating where required.
- Prepare, submit and follow through carrier referrals under Coalition’s capacity agreements, including rework and post-response actions.
- Conduct four-eyes and secondary reviews across SME, mid-market and large-risk business, and manage pricing exception requests.
- Document decisions so that they create usable precedent, and maintain a referral decision library for underwriters.
- Identify recurring referral patterns and convert them into guideline revisions, authority adjustments, underwriter coaching and training content.
- Specify automated referral gates and governance flags with Product and Engineering, and track their effect on volume and cycle time.
- Produce referral management information: volumes by trigger, cycle times, outcomes and trends.
- Coordinate CPU responses to North American carrier audits.
- Assist in researching and developing new insurance products.
Skills and Qualifications
- 8+ years of cyber or technology E&O underwriting experience at a carrier, MGA or reinsurer, across SME, mid-market and large accounts.
