Associate, Structuring (Tax/Preferred Equity) - Crux

About Crux

Crux is the capital platform for the clean economy. We modernize capital raising and deployment for clean energy and critical infrastructure with solutions across advisory, investments, technology, and intelligence.

Our team of 120+ is composed of experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology. We have raised $77 million in capital from top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, QED, and Canapi, joined by strategic partners such as Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, EDF Renewables, Intersect Power, and Orsted.

Traditional project financing is opaque, fragmented, and analog. At Crux, we are changing that through unmatched insights, white-glove service, purpose-built tools, and risk underwriting.

  • Analyze sponsor financials, project contracts, and diligence materials to evaluate risks and value drivers.
  • Leverage technology and AI-enabled tools to increase accuracy and efficiency across modeling, diligence, and reporting.
  • Contribute to process improvements and template standardization (models, IC memos, term sheets).
  • Support client interactions with developers, investors, and advisors under senior guidance.
  • Assist with portfolio management and monitoring project performance against underwriting benchmarks.
  • Support platform initiatives to scale tax equity workflows and develop tech-enabled financing solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field (MBA or MS is a plus).
  • 2+ years of experience in renewable energy, structured finance, infrastructure investing, investment banking, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated exposure to tax equity, project finance, or structured renewable energy transactions.
  • Strong financial modeling and structuring skills with a solid command of valuation and return concepts.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency; VBA or Python skills are a plus.
  • Experience preparing transaction materials and running due diligence.
  • Familiarity with tax equity structures (partnership flip, T-flip, hybrid, preferred equity), including allocations, capital accounts, and flip mechanics.
  • Exposure to IRS requirements, safe harbor tests, or recapture provisions is beneficial.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication capabilities.
  • Comfort adopting modern software platforms and integrating AI tools into workflows.
  • FINRA SIE, Series 79, and Series 63 (or willingness to obtain them under Crux’s broker-dealer sponsorship).
