Sr. Accountant - Crux

About Crux

Crux is the capital platform for the clean economy. We modernize capital raising and deployment for clean energy and critical infrastructure with solutions across advisory, investments, technology, and intelligence.

Our team is composed of experts in energy, tax, finance, policy, tech, and beyond. We have raised $77 million in capital from top investors, including Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, New System Ventures, Overture, Ardent Venture Partners, QED, Canapi, and others. These funds are joined by strategic investors including Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, EDF Renewables, Intersect Power, LS Power, Orsted, Hartree Partners, Liberty Mutual Strategic Ventures, MassMutual Ventures, and OMERS Ventures.

The Opportunity

We’re hiring a Senior Accountant to own the transactional layer of our accounting function: spend, payables, receivables, cash, and reconciliations across a growing group of entities. You will make sure the data flowing through our systems is accurate, complete, and trusted by the people who rely on it.

This is an ownership role. You will run your areas end to end, spot what is breaking before it becomes a problem, and build the processes and controls that let us scale. You will work closely with teams across Crux, so you need to be as comfortable coaching a coworker on expense policy as you are tying out a bank reconciliation.

You are detail-oriented but see the bigger picture, and you build systems that support long-term growth. You prioritize well in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. You are comfortable in gray areas and take ownership even when the path forward is not fully defined.

AI is central to how our accounting team works. You will build and run AI-assisted workflows as a core part of this role.

You will report to our Senior Accounting Manager and work alongside a small, hands-on team that already has strong documentation and processes in place. We move quickly, and people who take ownership are given room to grow.

What You’ll Do

Spend Management

  • Own Ramp and Navan administration: card setup and limits, transaction coding review, receipt and policy compliance, reimbursements and repayments, and first-line support for employee questions.
  • Set up coding options and spend controls ahead of time, so transactions are coded correctly from the start.
  • Keep expense policies and approval workflows clear, documented, and consistently followed across the company.

Payables and Receivables

  • Manage the AP process from invoice intake through payment, making sure bills are coded correctly, routed for approval, and paid accurately and on time.
  • Own cash application and AR aging, keeping receivables current, accurate, and visible to the team.
  • Maintain unbilled receivable schedules and track expected funding dates, tying both to incoming cash.
  • Help redesign our AR process around tax credit transaction timelines, building tracking and controls that connect expected funding to billing and cash.

Close and Reconciliations

  • Work alongside the accounting team on the monthly close, owning your assigned journal entries, accruals, prepaids, and checklist tasks.
  • Prepare assigned bank and balance sheet reconciliations, including spend platform to GL tie-outs, with clean, audit-ready support.
  • Record routine cash and intercompany entries across Crux’s entities using established processes.
  • Help the team prepare for the annual audit and respond to auditor requests.
  • Reconcile payroll entries to the GL each month.

Systems and Data

  • Own GL-to-subledger integrity for spend and AP: keep integrations running, catch sync breaks, and correct miscoding.
  • Keep department and account coding current and aligned with the company’s org structure as the business changes.
  • Lead process improvements that increase automation and accuracy, including AI-assisted reconciliations and workflows.
  • Partner with the accounting team and RevOps to keep deal data in HubSpot accurate and reconciled to the GL.

What You Bring

Must-Haves

  • 3 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least two years at a venture-backed or small, fast-moving startup.
  • Hands-on ownership of AP, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with modern spend management tools (Ramp, Brex, Navan, Expensify, or similar) and a cloud-based GL.
  • Exceptional reconciliation skills and comfort working with data across multiple connected systems.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including lookups and reconciliation workbooks.
  • Highly organized, with the discipline to follow a process and the judgment to improve it.
  • Clear, friendly communication with non-finance teams, and the confidence to hold people to policy.
  • Solid working knowledge of US GAAP and internal controls.
  • Hands-on experience building AI-assisted accounting workflows, and a builder’s instinct for automating repetitive work.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Deep Ramp experience, including administration, card and policy setup, and accounting integrations.
  • Multi-entity or intercompany accounting experience.
  • Exposure to fund, partnership, or project accounting, or to clean energy, financial services, or a regulated broker-dealer.
  • Public accounting experience.
  • Experience with Rillet, Rippling, or HubSpot.
  • Experience building with AI tools, such as projects, skills, or connectors.
