
About the Role
Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Elasticsearch Distributed Systems team. You will focus on the scalability, performance, and resilience of our Elasticsearch platform, with a specific emphasis on our next-generation Serverless offering. You will tackle complex challenges regarding node communication, data indexing, allocation, and cluster management.
What You Will Be Doing
- Leverage distributed systems expertise to build and operate core components of our Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
- Improve components supporting concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines.
- Maintain cluster coordination systems to ensure high performance and safety during node churn.
- Push the limits of scale regarding shards, nodes, and petabytes handled by Elasticsearch.
- Investigate and resolve complex performance, concurrency, and stability issues.
- Provide expert-level support for challenging technical problems and own operational investigations end-to-end.
What You Bring
- Deep background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
- Strong proficiency in core Java, including standard library data structures, concurrency constructs, and modern language features.
- Deep technical proficiency in algorithms.
- Proven ability to build and debug complex, highly distributed systems from the ground up.
- Ability to own projects from technical design through to development and deployment.
- Experience using AI to accelerate development, debug systems, and optimize code.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously in a distributed team environment.
Bonus Points
- Experience with data stores, search, analytics, or Lucene.
- Strong knowledge of the JDK.
- Experience with asynchronous event-driven network frameworks like Netty.
