About GitBook

GitBook builds a platform for authoring, publishing, and maintaining world-class documentation used by over 100k Monthly Active Users and thousands of teams, including Zoom, FedEx, Nvidia, Snyk, and Google. As GitBook wins more enterprise deals, legacy documentation needs to be cleanly, quickly, and reliably migrated into the platform. This is a new function at GitBook, and you will be the first person to own it.

What You'll Do

• Own enterprise content migrations end-to-end: scoping, customer communication, execution, and delivery.
• Work directly with customers to understand their content structure and set accurate expectations.
• Write and run transformation scripts to parse, normalize, and import content from formats including PDF, HTML, RST, Confluence exports, custom CMS dumps, and XML.
• Build reusable tooling and pipelines to accelerate future migrations.
• Define the migration process as you go, creating a documented, repeatable playbook.
• Partner with Solutions Engineers pre-sale to scope migration complexity and inform deal strategy.
• Provide feedback to the product team based on field experience to inform native features.

Technical Environment

• Python for transformation scripts and automation
• GitBook's API and Git Sync for content ingestion and structuring
• Common document formats: Markdown, RST, HTML, XML, PDF (text extraction), Confluence XML exports
• Standard tooling: Shell scripting, Git, and data wrangling

What We're Looking For

• Ownership mindset: Ability to define processes, flag problems early, and build without an established playbook.
• Technical depth in document formats: Experience parsing and transforming messy, structured, and semi-structured content at scale.
• Customer-facing credibility: Capability to manage customer calls, explain technical complexity, and communicate timelines clearly.
• Systematic approach: Focus on building reusable tooling rather than repeating manual processes.
• Pragmatism: Understanding the balance between shipping reliable scripts quickly versus over-engineering solutions.

Ideal Background

• Experience in technical writing, documentation engineering, solutions engineering, or data engineering involving document content.
• Familiarity with content management systems, structured content formats (DITA, DocBook), or developer tools / documentation platforms is helpful but not required.
