GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by over 50 million registered users and more than 50% of the Fortune 100. We embrace AI as a core productivity multiplier and foster a high-performance, values-driven culture built on continuous knowledge exchange.
An Overview of This Role
As an Intermediate Fullstack Engineer (Ruby/Vue.js) on the Growth team, you'll help turn GitLab's self-serve funnel into a reliable source of new paying customers. You'll work on the in-product journey from a user's first visit through sign-up, trial, and first purchase across both GitLab.com and self-managed GitLab.
You will combine fullstack engineering with product thinking and experimentation, shipping small changes quickly and measuring their impact on real customer outcomes in close collaboration with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Data Analysts.
Example Projects
- Making it easier for self-managed users to try and buy GitLab.
- Building upgrade prompts where users run into paid features.
- Improving the trial experience, including trials of GitLab Duo.
- Improving team tooling used to run and analyze experiments.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and iterate on A/B tests and experiments that increase first purchases on GitLab.com and self-managed GitLab.
- Build and improve registration, trial, onboarding, and in-product upgrade and purchase experiences.
- Implement backend features and services in Ruby on Rails and frontend experiences using Vue.js.
- Analyze experiment results and product usage data with Data Analysts to decide which changes to keep, iterate on, or roll back.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and UX Designers to define hypotheses and success metrics before shipping experiments.
- Maintain and improve the experimentation framework and tooling to increase experiment throughput.
- Collaborate with engineering teams (including Fulfillment) to remove purchase barriers across GitLab's codebase.
- Document decisions, review code, and share experiment results asynchronously.
What You'll Bring
- Professional experience developing with Ruby on Rails and modern JavaScript, alongside solid Git, feature development, and deployment workflows.
- Experience working with relational databases and a solid understanding of web performance optimization.
- A track record of shipping features to production and owning them post-release.
- Ability to use product data to guide build, iteration, or rollback decisions.
- Ability to document decisions and share updates asynchronously with distributed teammates.
- Strong self-organization, openness to feedback, and inclusive collaboration.
- Preferred (not required): Experience with Vue.js, PostgreSQL, A/B testing, feature flags, experimentation frameworks, or SaaS sign-up, trial, billing, or checkout flows.
About the Team
The Growth team works fully remotely and asynchronously across multiple regions, guided by GitLabβs core values of transparency and iteration. We prioritize work based on how directly it helps users buy, running high-impact experiments while coordinating closely with teams like Fulfillment and Pricing.
