Senior Backend Engineer (Python), Agent Developer: Flow Components - GitLab

About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Flow Components team, you will help build GitLab's Flow Registry, providing reusable primitives for agentic flows on the GitLab Duo Agent Platform. You will focus on backend engineering in Python, utilizing LangChain and LangGraph to develop secure, scalable capabilities for the Duo Workflow Service and the GitLab monolith.

What You’ll Do

• Develop, ship, and maintain secure, performant Flow Registry features.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product, UX, and AI specialists.
• Design and implement GraphQL and REST APIs with clear contracts.
• Improve automated testing frameworks (RSpec) to enhance reliability.
• Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations and contribute to root cause analysis.
• Monitor the competitive landscape to keep Flow Registry primitives at the forefront of the agentic platform market.

What You’ll Bring

• Proven experience building production Python applications with LangChain and LangGraph.
• Experience designing AI-powered backend features with an understanding of LLM limitations.
• Proficiency in designing scalable REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with JavaScript and Vue for cross-stack support.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a remote, asynchronous environment.
