Staff Frontend Engineer - Grafana DataViz

Grafana Labs is looking for a Staff Frontend Engineer to join the DataViz squad and help evolve Grafana's data visualization capabilities.

Note: This is a remote position seeking candidates in the US and Canada (EST/CST time zones).

About Grafana Frontend & The DataViz Squad

The Grafana Frontend group drives the end-to-end user experience for the Grafana observability product and its plugin platform. The DataViz squad focuses on building and evolving Grafana Visualizations, making it easy for users to set up, understand, and extract insights from their data.

Recent Projects

• Externalizing core visualizations to be independently releasable and remove interdependencies.
• Developing GraphViz for relationships, flows, and architectures using the Graphviz DOT language with live metrics.
• Raising the bar on quality and reliability through improved test coverage and new visual regression strategies and tooling.
• Refreshing the look and feel of existing visualizations like Table and Gauge.

Tech Stack: TypeScript, React, uPlot, and eCharts.

What You'll Be Doing

• Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout, including user feedback and impact measurement.
• Mentor and collaborate with other engineers through code reviews, design feedback, and pairing on hard problems.
• Participate in on-call rotations for services you help build, acting as a force multiplier in incident response and post-incident learning.
• Provide technical support in customer escalations and identify areas of high friction.
• Collaborate across squads to represent team work, write design proposals, run demos, and advocate for the roadmap.
• Utilize modern AI coding assistants as part of your daily workflow with a company-funded usage budget.

• Open-source contribution or maintainership.
• Active interest in observability (Metrics, Logs, Traces) with Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, or Tempo.
• Experience working in a fully remote, globally distributed team.

Benefits & Compensation

• Compensation Range (Canada): $186,368 - $223,642 CAD.
• Restricted Stock Units (RSUs): Ownership in Grafana Labs' success.
