Manager: Compliance Advisory (and Data Protection) - Griffin

About Griffin

Hi, we’re Griffin. We’re a fully regulated UK bank that powers the accounts and payments offerings of product-led fintechs and platforms like Uber, Yonder, Prosper, and Sidekick. By doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes, our customers can focus on what they do best - delivering amazing customer experiences.

We’ve grown rapidly since our launch in 2024, and today provide the banking backbone behind products in remittance, payroll, wealth, insurance, proptech, payments, neobanking and more. We’re moving into card issuing, stablecoin infrastructure, and agentic finance next as we continue to support the next generation of product-led companies.

Our culture

We believe that smart, motivated, conscientious people thrive in high-trust, high-autonomy environments and have done our best to create such an environment at Griffin. We've been remote-first since we were established in 2017 and we remain so today. Work here is asynchronous and fully flexible.

The Team

You'll join our Service guild and work across first line operations, sales and product. Working closely with Protect (our second line) you'll be the first person dedicated to compliance within the team. You'll define what great compliance solutions look like, then implement them, keeping Griffin's products and customer outcomes in shape as we grow.

The Opportunity

We want compliance and data protection built into how we design, sell and run our products, not bolted at the end.

As our hands-on compliance adviser in the first line, you'll bring regulatory expertise to help our operations, commercial and product teams do exactly that. Compliance advisory will take around 70% of your time, with the remaining 30% acting as our Data Protection Officer (DPO) — training will be provided if needed.

What You Will Do

Compliance Advisory (~70% of time):

  • Product development: Turning regulation into clear requirements, customer journeys, T&Cs and fair value assessments from idea to launch.
  • Product lifecycle management: Keeping live products compliant through periodic fair value assessments, outcome monitoring, and reviews.
  • Sales & Marketing: Helping commercial teams assess partner risk, reviewing sales materials, and challenging financial promotions.
  • Service & Operations: Building regulatory and data protection requirements into day-to-day operations with usable controls.
  • Regulatory change & Issues: Assessing new rules, investigating compliance issues, and reporting on risks and customer outcomes.
  • Second line liaison: Collaborating with Protect (risk and compliance) to share evidence and act on feedback.

Data Protection Officer (~30% of time):

  • Advising teams on obligations, DPIAs, and transfer risk assessments (TRAs).
  • Monitoring UK GDPR and global data protection law compliance.
  • Delivering colleague training and acting as the contact point for the ICO and data inquiries.

Your Background

We need a proactive compliance doer who gets stuck in and helps teams find simple, clear solutions:

  • Compliance experience in the first or second line of a UK regulated firm (bank, e-money institution, or payments firm preferred).
  • Practical knowledge of regulations such as Consumer Duty, BCOBS, CASS, FISMA, Payment Services Regulations, and Money Laundering Regulations.
  • Hands-on experience turning regulation into practical requirements for product, sales, or operations.
  • Openness to picking up data protection/DPO responsibilities.
  • A curious approach with the confidence to challenge when something isn't right.
  • Excellent written communication skills.

What We Offer

  • Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 (DOE)
  • Remote-first flexibility: Work from anywhere in the UK
  • Work from abroad: Up to 20 days a year
  • Time off: 25 days’ holiday, bank holidays, and a winter break shutdown
