About the Role
Jasper has made its shift to serving the enterprise, and our governance domain (authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, billing) is the backbone of every customer interaction. We are looking for a Staff-level engineer to own its architecture and modernization.
You will take the reins of these critical backend foundations, refactoring them to be composable, stable, and scalable for CMOs, marketing admins, and Forward Deployed Engineers. This is a deep technical IC role focused on driving architectural direction and hardening core systems.
This fully remote role reports to our Director of Engineering and is open to candidates located anywhere in the continental US.
What You Will Do
- Own the architecture of our governance domain end-to-end (authentication, roles and permissions, organizations, groups, billing) and drive modernization for scale, security, and extensibility.
- Lead the refactoring of foundational backend systems toward an AI-native architecture, supporting composable and customizable workflows.
- Set technical direction for authentication, authorization, and organizational modeling, balancing immediate hardening with long-term platform thinking.
- Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate enterprise requirements into scalable platform capabilities.
- Mentor and elevate the engineering team, raising the bar on backend practices, code quality, and architectural rigor.
- Operate hands-on 70–80% of the time, writing and reviewing critical-path code while providing technical leadership.
What You Will Bring
- AI fluency with a working understanding of core AI concepts (LLMs, agents, tokens, credits, context windows, RAG, data governance) applied to backend engineering.
- Heavy backend experience owning complex, business-critical backend systems and hardening them for enterprise scale.
- Deep expertise in at least one of: authentication/authorization, multi-tenant systems, or billing platforms.
- Strong architectural judgment, balancing pragmatism with long-term platform thinking (build vs. buy vs. refactor).
- A track record of technical leadership as an individual contributor, mentoring engineers and driving technical direction.
- Familiarity with enterprise requirements such as SSO/SAML, SCIM, audit logs, and compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001) is a strong plus.
