Senior Product Designer - Loancrate

About Loancrate & The Opportunity

Loancrate was founded to simplify and reduce the cost of home-buying for lenders and borrowers. Today, mortgage lenders rely on outdated software, leading to slow, unstable operations and an average human cost of over $11,000 to originate a loan.

We build AI-native tooling to automate mortgage workflows, aiming for fully automated origination that could save lenders over $16 billion in operating expenses annually. Since our start in 2020, our remote team has helped customers power over $85 billion in new home loans. We value collaboration, open communication (both good and bad) for rapid learning, and enjoying our work. If you enjoy diving deep quickly, you'll fit right in.

We have ambitious goals and much to build. We're seeking a Senior Product Designer to transform some of the most complex and high-stakes workflows in financial services into intuitive, trustworthy, and even enjoyable experiences. You'll be embedded within Product and Engineering, owning design end-to-end for a core product area.

This is not a pixel-pushing role. You'll engage in discovery calls with customers, shape product direction with Product Management, and partner closely with Engineering to ensure designs are accurately implemented. Great design is a first-class function here; our customers depend on our software to run their businesses, and the quality of the experience directly impacts their trust. You care deeply about craft – not just visual polish, but the interaction details and information architecture that make complex systems intuitive. You think in systems, pay attention to micro-interactions, and bring a strong point of view to every surface you own. We're building an AI-native product and heavily use AI in our own workflows, so enthusiasm for this will help you thrive.

What You'll Do

  • Own design end-to-end for a core product area, from early discovery through high-fidelity Figma design, partnering closely with Product Management and Engineering.
  • Lead customer discovery sessions, running usability tests, delving into workflows, and translating insights into design decisions.
  • Design intuitive UX patterns for complex interaction paradigms, including multi-step automation workflows, AI-generated content, data-dense tables, and high-stakes decision surfaces.
  • Design for AI-native experiences, addressing uncertainty states, intervention affordances, streaming content, and graceful error handling.
  • Build and maintain Figma component libraries and design system assets to provide Engineering with a coherent, scalable visual language.
  • Advocate for accessibility, ensuring WCAG compliance, appropriate color and contrast, keyboard navigation, and inclusive design practices.
  • Scope design work pragmatically, making smart tradeoffs between craft and delivery velocity without compromising correctness.

Preferred Skills and Background

(It's okay not to have all of these things - these are just some skills we are excited about!)

  • Portfolio showcasing high-craft visual and interaction design, including dense layouts, multi-step workflows, and a clear, consistent point of view.
  • Deep Figma proficiency, including variables, auto-layout, variants, prototyping, and component library hygiene.
  • Comfort designing AI-native UX, understanding the unique challenges of surfaces where outputs are probabilistic, not deterministic.
  • Facility with data-dense UIs, such as tables, filtering and sorting, bulk actions, and information-heavy layouts that remain approachable.
  • Strong user research instincts, knowing how to conduct interviews, synthesize qualitative signals, and connect learnings to design decisions.
  • Accessibility proficiency, including WCAG, ARIA, color/contrast, and motion sensitivity.
  • Experience contributing to or building design systems, understanding component architecture and designing for reuse.
  • Product mindset, possessing strong opinions, communicating rationale clearly, and knowing when to push back and when to ship.
  • Visual design chops and brand sensibility, a plus for work occasionally extending beyond product UI.
