About Us

Monarch is an all-in-one personal finance platform designed to make financial management simple. Since launching in 2021, we've become a top-recommended personal finance app. Our goal is to take the stress out of finances so members can focus on what truly matters.

We are a team of builders led by experienced entrepreneurs. AI is core to how we operate: every team member uses it as a partner to sharpen judgment, move faster, and expand what's possible.

As a fully remote company (even before COVID), we welcome applicants from almost anywhere. Our team collaborates synchronously mostly from 9 AM – 2 PM PT and embraces asynchronous work to stay connected across time zones.

The Role

Monarch is seeking a Principal, Procurement to join our Finance team during a period of rapid growth. Reporting to the Head of Operations and Finance, you will own and mature our existing procurement program, lead strategic sourcing and negotiations, and build a proactive approach to vendor and technology-spend management.

This is a senior individual-contributor role with company-wide impact. You will partner closely with Finance, Engineering, Legal, Security, IT, People, and business leaders to help Monarch make sound purchasing decisions, improve vendor economics, and scale technology spend efficiently.

What You’ll Do

  • Own and continuously improve Monarch’s company-wide procurement process, including system administration for Zip, ensuring it remains efficient, scalable, and easy to navigate.
  • Lead strategic sourcing and negotiations for material vendors, using market intelligence, usage data, and business context to optimize pricing, terms, commitments, and overall value.
  • Build a proactive vendor-management program providing clear visibility into contracts, spend, ownership, renewals, utilization, performance, and consolidation opportunities.
  • Partner with Finance, Engineering, and business leaders to improve the commercial economics of Monarch’s SaaS, cloud, data, AI, and other technology spend.
  • Drive adoption through clear policies, self-service resources, and employee education, while leveraging AI and automation to streamline procurement operations.

What You’ll Bring

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in procurement, strategic sourcing, vendor management, or technology-spend management, including personal ownership of material negotiations.
  • Demonstrated experience owning and improving procurement processes in a high-growth technology company (ideally within B2C, subscription, SaaS, or fintech).
  • Hands-on experience administering a procurement-orchestration or workflow platform, including configuring intake, conditional logic, approval routing, permissions, and reporting.
  • Experience sourcing and negotiating technology spend, including SaaS, cloud infrastructure, data, AI, or other consumption-based vendor models.
  • Track record of partnering with Finance and Engineering to manage cloud or usage-based technology spend and translating cost/usage insights into commercial decisions.
  • Strong commercial and analytical judgment with the ability to connect spend and utilization data to business value and unit economics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence leaders and drive cross-functional decisions without formal authority.
  • A proactive, hands-on operating style with the ability to navigate between strategy and execution.
  • Demonstrated AI fluency: You use AI regularly in your work, understand its strengths and limitations, and actively redesign procurement workflows around automation and AI.
