The Role
Oyster is looking for a sharp, self-driven Employment Counsel to contribute to our growth and shape the future of global distributed work. As part of our Employment Law Team, you will advise internal teams and external stakeholders on employment law matters across multiple jurisdictions.
Note: This role requires at least 3-4 hours of overlap with Central European Time (CET/CEST) business hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Template Management: Own and maintain employment templates, policies, and processes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Regulatory Monitoring: Monitor legislative developments globally and drive implementation of required changes.
- Cross-functional Partnership: Work with Product and People teams to design compliant employment solutions.
- Lifecycle Advisory: Advise on hiring, compensation, leave, performance management, and terminations.
- Strategic Support: Support initiatives like Direct Expansion and the launch of new employment products.
- Innovation: Champion the use of AI and automation to improve legal workflows and team efficiency.
Core Requirements
- Law Degree (JD or equivalent) and admission to practice law in one or more jurisdictions.
- 4+ years of experience practicing employment law (combination of law firm and in-house preferred).
- Deep expertise in drafting contracts, managing policies, and interpreting local labor regulations.
- Understanding of the Employer of Record (EOR) model and its unique legal challenges.
- Experience managing multi-jurisdictional and cross-border employment matters.
- Ability to distill complex legal concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
- Technology-forward mindset with comfort leveraging AI and automation tools.
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
