About the Role

We are looking for a passionate Senior Backend Developer to join our engineering team. You will collaborate with product managers, designers, developers, QA engineers, and technical writers to build and enhance our flagship Jira Cloud products—including Tempo Timesheets, Capacity Planner, and Financial Manager.

What You'll Do

• Write efficient, readable, maintainable, and testable code using Kotlin, Java, and other server-side languages and frameworks.
• Create unit, integration, and performance tests.
• Conduct peer code reviews.
• Solve complex architectural and technical problems with high attention to user experience, security, and performance.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to develop and maintain top-tier Atlassian plugins used worldwide.

Who You Are

• Experience: 4+ years of commercial web application server-side development in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Architecture & Infrastructure: Experience designing APIs, building scalable distributed systems, and working with Kubernetes and AWS.
• Data Management: Proficiency with SQL queries and database performance optimization, alongside experience with NoSQL systems (such as MongoDB or AWS DynamoDB).
• Foundations: Strong grasp of Computer Science fundamentals (algorithms, data structures, Big-O notation); degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• Collaboration & Autonomy: Strong problem-solving skills, ability to work independently in a remote environment without complete specs, and upper-intermediate English communication skills.
• Pluses: Experience with TypeScript and the React ecosystem, or deep experience with performance optimization.
