Assured is on a mission to modernize insurance claims processingโa crucial foundation of the industry that remains highly manual, costly, and inefficient. We provide large insurers with software solutions ranging from self-service claim-filing to backend fraud detection.
As a Data Architect, you will define the standards, patterns, and platform that turn raw data into analytics the entire business can trust, designing and building our BI analytics platform. This is a hands-on architecture role requiring exceptional engineering discipline to establish schema design, lineage, security, PII governance, and delivery SLAs.
Problems You'll Solve
- Define trustworthy architecture: Design platform architecture (e.g., Medallion: Bronze, Silver, Gold) and define modeling standards, naming conventions, and shared engineering patterns.
- Ensure traceable metrics: Establish end-to-end, column-level lineage from source systems to dashboards backed by a maintained data catalog and business glossary.
- Handle PII by design: Implement sensitive data classification, tagging, masking, row-level security, least-privilege RBAC, and lifecycle retention/deletion rules.
- Commit to reliability: Define SLAs, SLOs, and freshness targets for data products, backed by proactive automated monitoring and alerting.
- Architect resilient data flows: Build idempotent, recoverable, and cost-efficient ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines handling backfills and late-arriving data.
- Manage schema evolution: Own schema review, versioning, and change management to maintain downstream stability.
How You'll Make an Impact
- Own platform architecture: Oversee schema design and system architecture across every layer through robust design reviews.
- Partner across teams: Translate business and reporting requirements into durable data models while collaborating with Security, Legal, and Compliance.
- Enforce engineering discipline: Require version control, CI/CD, automated testing, IaC, and data quality contracts across all boundaries.
- Document transparent decisions: Write clear Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) and design documentation detailing trade-offs.
- Mentor and elevate: Guide data and analytics engineers through technical reviews, written standards, and collaborative problem-solving.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, or data warehousing, including 3+ years as an accountable data architect.
- Expert-level SQL skills and working fluency in Python.
- Deep hands-on experience running Snowflake (or equivalent cloud data warehouse) at scale, including RBAC, masking policies, object tagging, and cost optimization.
- Strong familiarity with tools like dbt, Terraform, and orchestrators such as Airflow or Dagster.
- Mastery of data modeling methodologies (dimensional/Kimball, normalized, and Data Vault).
- Proven experience handling PII and regulated data under frameworks like CCPA, GDPR, or SOC 2.
- Experience implementing data lineage, observability, and catalog tools (e.g., Atlan, Alation, Collibra, or DataHub).
- Strong software engineering practices: Git, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD.
