About Bitwarden

Bitwarden is the trusted identity security leader for millions of users worldwide, empowering enterprises, developers, and individuals to securely manage and share sensitive information anywhere. Bitwarden makes it easy for all users to extend robust security across their devices with password management, secrets management, and passwordless and passkey innovations. The company is headquartered in Santa Barbara, California with team members located across the globe.

The Role

As a Lead Software Engineer on Bitwardenโ€™s Provider/Business Unit Portals team, you will lead the design and development of both the Provider and Business Unit Portals. The former services managed service providers (MSPs) and resellers who administer Bitwarden organizations on behalf of separate external customers. The latter enables an organization's administrators to manage multiple Enterprise organizations across business units, subsidiaries, or departments. Both portals give administrators a centralized experience for creating and managing multiple Bitwarden Enterprise organizations at scale.

This role is hands-on and does not carry people management responsibilities. You will stay close to code while driving architecture, technical direction, and high-impact engineering initiatives. As our India Product Engineering organization expands, you will help shape engineering practices and mentor engineers through technical leadership.

What You Will Do

  • End-to-End Delivery & Ownership: Design, build, test, deploy, and operate secure, performant services and applications for the Provider and Business Unit Portals, maintaining end-to-end accountability.
  • Engineering Standards and Automated Quality: Set standards in pull request reviews and define conventions for testing, error handling, API design, and secure coding. Maintain automated suites, integration harnesses, CI/CD pipelines, architecture specifications, API contracts, and open-source developer documentation.
  • Decoupled Architecture and Service Boundaries: Maintain clean service boundaries and design resilient APIs to enable independent evolution from the core platform, documenting technical decisions.
  • Technical Mentorship: Pair on complex engineering problems, deliver substantive design feedback, and mentor engineers across the team.
  • Codebase Health: Contribute to performance, reliability, accessibility, and maintainability. Identify technical debt and schedule pragmatic refactoring alongside feature delivery.
  • Operational Stewardship: Own the operational health, performance monitoring, and reliability telemetry of production services.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Design, Security, and other engineering teams to design and validate solutions prior to implementation.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 8+ years as a Software Engineer with technical team leadership experience, mentoring senior engineers, and driving technical direction.
  • Core Stack Expertise: Deep experience in C# / .NET and TypeScript / Angular, with an ability to adopt AI-assisted development tools responsibly.
  • Technical Stack Experience:
    • Relational database design, optimization, and SQL Server
    • Rust (used in core SDKs via WASM and UniFFI bindings)
    • Writing, consuming, and designing SDKs and APIs
    • AI-assisted development tooling (e.g., Claude Code)
  • Technical Stack Familiarity:
    • MVC design patterns
    • Entity Framework or adjacent ORMs supporting PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite
  • Modernization Judgment: Proven track record executing incremental modernization in production codebases (framework upgrades, strict typing rollouts, state-management migrations) without halting feature delivery.
  • T-Shaped Mindset: Practical experience with containerized environments (Docker/Kubernetes), automated test frameworks (unit, integration, end-to-end), and observability/APM tooling.
  • Secure Coding: Familiarity with zero-trust and zero-knowledge security architectures, encryption standards, and threat modeling.
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration: Collaborative mindset with a strong emphasis on clear written documentation and data-driven technical decision-making.
