The Opportunity

The Engineering Manager is a hands-on, player-coach leadership role. You are embedded with your team - daily standup, code review, architectural calls, delivery planning, and performance management - and you own both the team's output and the team's growth. This is a genuinely technical and leadership role where you are expected to write and review code, be a credible voice in architectural decisions, and stay current in your team's stack.

Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Growth

• Lead a team of engineers, owning both its delivery and its development.
• Drive a mindset and process of continuous improvement within the team through fast iterations.
• Responsible for the professional well-being and career development of team members via regular 1:1s, growth plans, performance reviews, and direct feedback.
• Develop the next layer of leadership including tech leads, senior engineers ready to manage, and ICs ready for staff roles.

Technical Leadership

• Write and review code as a credible voice in technical decisions.
• Drive architectural and technical design decisions in partnership with senior ICs.
• Uphold engineering standards through pull-request reviews and release processes.
• Work AI-augmented and lead an AI-augmented team, applying sharp judgment about where AI helps.

Roadmap & Delivery

• Own the team's commitments, delivery quality, and operating cadence.
• Partner with the Technical Product Owner and Product team on scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
• Ensure engineering effort aligns with broader business objectives and react decisively to change.

Hiring

• Own hiring for your team, interviewing thoughtfully and upholding high standards.
• Operate as a role model for other engineering managers across the organization.

Communication & Collaboration

• Upwards: Communicate clearly with leadership, providing context and relevant escalations.
• Downwards: Empower senior engineers and coach team members on impact.
• Sideways: Partner effectively with Product, Design, GTM, and Customer Success teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering management roles with active coding responsibilities.
• Hands-on experience building cloud-based SaaS products on AWS, GCP, or Azure, owning availability, cost, and customer-facing surfaces.
• API-first mindset with fully functional platforms available through APIs for humans and agents.
• Strong background in databases, SQL, query optimization, and BigQuery.
• Track record of taking an engineering team and visibly transforming delivery velocity and quality.
• Deep technical fluency in your team's primary stack and strong opinions on high-performing team operations.
• Excellent judgment under pressure and direct, candid communication skills.
