The Role: Forward Deployed Engineer

The Customer Engineering Solutions Team at Domino is the primary delivery engine, working within some of the world’s most regulated, complex, and demanding organizations where security, reliability, governance, and production readiness are paramount.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you are a software engineer with strong solutions instincts, embedded within a customer’s environment. You will build AI workflows on Domino that customers couldn't achieve as quickly or effectively without your expertise. This involves writing and deploying production code within customer environments and ensuring Domino becomes a fundamental part of their operations.

We build and deploy production-grade AI solutions for real, high-impact use cases. This can include specialized AI and inference workflows, custom cloud and data integrations, interactive applications, CI/CD and platform extensions, or solutions designed to operate within strict security, compliance, and governance requirements.

What You'll Do

  • Day 0–30 (Onboard & Shadow): Master the Domino platform mechanics and core user/admin functionalities. Closely shadow customer environments, pairing with a senior FDE to understand client data, tooling stack, and commercial objectives.
  • By Month 6 (Full Ownership): Take full customer ownership across your engagements, executing independently against a prioritized backlog managed by your Engagement Manager (EM). Build and deploy production-grade solutions across the entire MLOps lifecycle (development, deployment, and monitoring), while actively advising data science teams on Domino best practices.
  • By Year 1 (Strategic Scale & Leverage): Lead and advise on key accounts, serving as a trusted advisor to technical and business stakeholders. Author reusable playbooks, integration templates, and deployment guides for our shared knowledge base, significantly boosting the delivery speed of the entire FDE practice. Translate field intelligence into critical product feedback, routing platform signals to our SRE, Support, and Product teams to shape Domino’s roadmap.

What We Look For

  • 1-3 years of experience in a customer-facing technical role.
  • Core Technical Stack: Strong engineering fundamentals with deep proficiency in Python (primary), alongside familiarity with SQL, R, and Bash.
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Experience with Kubernetes and managed K8s solutions (e.g., EKS, AKS, GKE), Docker, and cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Capable of troubleshooting networking, compute, and platform issues.
  • AI & MLOps Experience: Proven track record of delivering machine learning workflows, model deployment/monitoring, GPU workloads, and generative AI or agent frameworks.
  • Regulated Environment Navigation: Experience operating within, or consulting for, highly regulated or constrained environments. Ability to expertly navigate multi-factor constraints like strict compliance rules, data security hurdles, and infrastructure limits.
  • Consultative Mindset: Exceptional communication skills for both technical and business audiences. Comfortable running structured discovery conversations, leading technical solutioning sessions, and translating complex customer requirements into buildable, tested solutions.
  • Execution Style: An "act fast, own it" mentality. Thrive in ambiguity, proactively address blockers, and quickly become productive within unfamiliar codebases.
