This role will focus on our Quora product.

About the Team and Role

Machine Learning is central to Quora's mission. We have 100+ ML models in production powering various product features, ranging from linear models to deep neural networks serving hundreds of millions of users each month.

Our team owns Quora's ML platform and ranking infrastructure across four key areas: serving reliability, ML engineer enablement and developer velocity, business impact, and cost efficiency. We empower all ML engineers at Quora to solve ML problems at scale.

As a Software Engineer (New Grad) on this team, you will work at the intersection of machine learning, distributed systems, and GPU serving performance. No previous ML infrastructure experience is required—you will join experienced engineers, learn the stack from its creators, receive dedicated mentorship, and ship to production within your first few weeks.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain core infrastructure powering Quora's ML platform for high availability, scalability, and performance
• Build and improve distributed systems serving ML models in production, from Large Recommendation Models (LRMs) to Large Language Models (LLMs)
• Work on GPU model serving, optimizing latency, throughput, and compute cost
• Contribute to platform initiatives such as PyTorch-first standardization and ML ecosystem modernization
• Improve ML developer velocity by building developer tooling to develop, test, and deploy models efficiently
• Modernize our feature store to accelerate production deployment of new features
• Participate in the team on-call rotation to diagnose and resolve production issues

Minimum Requirements

• Availability for meetings and communication during Quora's coordination hours (Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Pacific Time)
• 2025 or 2026 graduate pursuing or holding a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
• Genuine interest in large-scale distributed systems, infrastructure, and machine learning
• Working knowledge of Python, Go, or C++, or the demonstrated ability to learn them quickly
• Passion for continuous learning and technical growth

Preferred Requirements

• Previous software engineering experience through internships, work experience, open-source contributions, or coding competitions
• Coursework or practical experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Exposure to Kubernetes, Docker, or AWS cloud infrastructure
• Experience with performance profiling, benchmarking, or low-level systems optimization
• Passion for Quora's mission and product ecosystem

Compensation & Benefits

• US Salary Range: $97,600 - $139,000 USD + equity + benefits
• Canada (Toronto/Vancouver): $125,320 - $142,783 CAD + equity + benefits
• Canada (All other locations): $116,965 - $133,264 CAD + equity + benefits
