Your Team and Role
Working on the Design Functional Team, this role is design-first, leveraging your product design expertise and obsession with craft to maintain high quality across products including Duck.ai, native apps, search, and related initiatives.
At DuckDuckGo, Design owns quality end-to-end, and your engineering skills close the gap between intended design and what ships. You are fluent in code to prototype, spec precisely, and partner with engineers as a peer within the codebase. As our second Design Engineer, you will have the opportunity to shape the discipline and lead high-impact projects at scale.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
- 7+ years in product design roles, including 2+ years at a senior level with significant global consumer brands.
- Push creative limits on complex design problems, delivering delight, craft, and exceptional quality.
- Communicate visual and interaction recommendations via high-fidelity mockups, rationale, prototypes, and motion variables.
- Partner with engineers as a peer, reasoning about decisions in PR reviews and directly contributing code to raise design quality.
- Prototype in code to production standards with semantic markup and accessibility awareness, leveraging AI appropriately.
- Structure design systems beyond component inventories: token layering, primitive vs. semantic naming, and design-to-code parity.
- Proficient in both qualitative and quantitative research and experimentation, comfortable instrumenting your own work.
- Contribute across the product lifecycle, including prioritization, product strategy, and user testing.
- Build tools and define requirements that accelerate design and engineering workflows.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $178,500 USD annually (identical across all locations within level) plus stock options.
- Health Coverage: Company-sponsored health benefits for US-based team members.
- Workplace Perks: Paid parental leave, home office setup allowance, and co-working allowances.
