GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps. GitLab enables organizations to increase developer productivity, improve operational efficiency, reduce security and compliance risk, and accelerate digital transformation. More than 50 million registered users and more than 50% of the Fortune 100 trust GitLab to ship better, more secure software faster.
Our team embraces AI as a core productivity multiplier, with all team members expected to incorporate AI into their daily workflows to drive efficiency, innovation, and impact. GitLab is where careers accelerate, innovation flourishes, and every voice is valued.
An Overview of This Role
As an AI Transformation Owner at GitLab, you'll shape your function's AI strategy and build the solutions that deliver it. You are responsible for identifying where AI can fundamentally change how your org operates, partnering with your Executive Sponsor to align on the biggest challenges, and driving measurable outcomes against them.
Think of this as a product management role where the product is your org's way of working. You'll manage the full lifecycle: understanding how work flows today, deciding where AI should reshape it, prioritizing what gets built, and ensuring what ships actually gets adopted. You'll also prototype solutions, configure agents, and prove what's possible before pulling in engineering support to scale it.
You will work closely with an AI Engineer who sits within the Enterprise AI team. Together you form a partnership: you bring the business context, process intelligence, and strategic prioritization, while they bring the technical depth, production-grade delivery, and architecture decisions.
What You'll Do
Strategy & Prioritization
- Own your function's AI strategy: Align with your Executive Sponsor and business priorities. Understand which metrics matter, identify what will move the needle, and track progress over time.
- Map how work flows: Analyze end-to-end workflows across your function, including upstream and downstream handoffs. Focus on 100x problems where leveraging AI can execute workflows orders of magnitude faster.
- Manage intake: Coordinate AI requests, ideas, and pain points from across the function via your Champion network.
- Prioritize strategically: Hold the line on priorities against business outcomes and executive guidance, ensuring engineering time is spent on the highest-impact work.
Adoption & Change Management
- Reimagine, don't just automate: Challenge your org to think beyond injecting AI into existing workflows and fundamentally rethink how work gets done.
- Drive adoption and change management: Create channels, rituals, and feedback loops (shared spaces, office hours, onboarding) to make AI visible and ensure initiatives stick.
- Coordinate with Enterprise AI: Ensure your function benefits from patterns, tools, and learnings emerging across other parts of the business.
- Build and bridge the Champion network: Recruit and coordinate Champions across sub-teams to extend your reach, run regular syncs, and host demos.
Hands-On Building & Agent Operations
- Build AI agents: Use no-code and low-code platforms (e.g., Glean, Workato) to go from idea to working prototype without waiting for engineering.
- Author and iterate on skills files: Define how AI agents behave, refining instructions based on real usage.
- Configure MCP servers and tools: Give agents secure access to the business systems they need in partnership with the AI Engineer.
- Own your function's fleet of agents: Track KPIs, run evaluations after model or data changes, and iterate based on performance.
- Expect to rebuild: Sunset your own work when better approaches or tools emerge to keep the organization current.
What You'll Bring
Business & Strategic
- Deep knowledge of operations: Ability to trace processes end-to-end and understand how they connect to surrounding teams.
- Strategic prioritization skills: Experience managing competing demands and making hard calls based on business outcomes.
- A product management mindset: Comfort with intake, backlog management, iteration, adoption, and defining success metrics.
- Strong communication and influence: Credibility and interpersonal skills to navigate challenging prioritization conversations.
- Experience building peer networks: Proven ability to recruit and motivate volunteer contributors or champion programs.
Hands-On & Technical
- Comfortable building with AI tools: Ability to build working agents, configure skills, connect MCP servers, and troubleshoot (power-user level).
- Ready to learn fast: Willingness to quickly pick up no-code/low-code AI platforms, prompt engineering, and agent configuration.
- Strong conceptual understanding of AI capabilities: Deep knowledge of summarization, classification, generation, automation, and agentic workflows.
- Ability to map data flows: Understanding of structured and unstructured data, where agents need context, and where humans should interface with automated workflows.
