Senior Backend Engineer, Platform Readiness - GitLab

About the Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Platform Readiness team, you will architect and evolve systems that ensure GitLab features ship successfully across Self-Managed, Dedicated, Dedicated for Government, and GitLab.com. You will be a technical anchor, driving the transition from manual, ad-hoc assessments toward intelligent, agentic automation.

What You'll Do

• Agentic Workflows: Design and evolve the Core Agentic Workflow and Requirements Agent on the Duo Agent Platform.
• Knowledge Base Evolution: Contribute to schema design, validation tooling, and CI systems that power platform readiness intelligence.
• Integration Surfaces: Build interfaces that allow feature teams to engage with readiness requirements directly within issues, merge requests, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Infrastructure, Security, and Data teams to translate domain expertise into structured, machine-readable requirements.
• Quality Control: Design feedback loops to measure assessment accuracy and surface gaps for continuous improvement.
• Mentorship: Guide team members on agentic-workflow standards, prompt discipline, and human-AI collaboration.

What You'll Bring

• Experience: 5+ years of software engineering, with 2+ years in backend, platform, or developer-facing tooling.
• Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in TypeScript/Node, Python, or Golang (Ruby is a plus).
• Developer Tooling: Proven experience building tools where the primary user is another engineer.
• Workflow Knowledge: Familiarity with GitLab-style development (issues, epics, MRs, CI/CD).
• Structured Systems: Experience with schema design, validation tooling, or structured content systems.

Highly Valued Experience

• Experience with AI/agentic systems (DAP, ADK, LangGraph) or LLM API integration.
• Background in developer experience (DevEx) or platform engineering.
• Experience with governance patterns for shared standards.
• PostgreSQL or relational database experience at scale.
