About the Role
As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Trusted Agentic Development team, you will own the technical thesis for closing the validation gap in AI-generated code. You will build systems that ensure agent-generated software is not just syntactically correct, but functionally sound.
What You’ll Do
- Architect Validation: Define how GitLab validates software authored by AI agents.
- Prototype & Build: Develop feedback mechanisms that catch the gap between passing tests and working software.
- Language-Aware Systems: Develop approaches for Rust, Ruby, and Go, ensuring a shared definition of "trusted" code.
- Mid-Loop Feedback: Design and build systems that allow agents to self-correct toward working software.
- Collaborate & Measure: Work with engineering teams to adopt these approaches, measure trust, and iterate on the platform.
- Technical Leadership: Set technical direction, review designs, and mentor teammates.
What You’ll Bring
- Agentic Experience: Deep, hands-on experience building software with AI agents across multiple languages.
- Technical Range: Ability to design complex systems rather than just tuning frameworks.
- Prototyping Mindset: A focus on shipping and learning through iteration.
- Communication: Strong written communication skills suitable for an all-remote, asynchronous environment.
- Values Alignment: Commitment to GitLab’s values of collaboration, iteration, and transparency.
