You'll hire engineers, shape how the team works, and guide delivery of a reliable product experience for customers.
Your team will build a Continuous Deployment engine that goes beyond script execution. It will reconcile live state, coordinate durable workflows, and support AI-native governance. You'll align technical direction with customer needs and business goals in an asynchronous, remote-first environment.
What You'll Do
- Build and manage a globally distributed engineering team, creating an environment where team members can do their best work and grow their careers.
- Hire, onboard, and develop engineers, setting clear expectations for quality and accountability.
- Partner with product management and cross-functional engineering teams to shape the roadmap, make sound architectural decisions, and deliver against product commitments.
- Set expectations for reliable, secure, maintainable, and performant delivery, and help the team meet them.
- Encourage the use of AI tools in daily workflows to drive efficiency and innovation.
- Hold regular 1:1s, provide continuous feedback, and support engineers' professional growth through coaching and skill development.
- Track milestone progress, identify blockers early, and address patterns before escalation is needed.
- Participate in the incident management on-call rotation to help maintain availability targets for GitLab.com.
What You'll Bring

- Experience with distributed systems and durable workflow execution, including state persistence and replay patterns.
- Experience building or managing teams working on release orchestration, deployment automation, or continuous delivery at scale.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes deployment patterns and GitOps workflows, including progressive delivery strategies such as blue/green and canary deployments.
- Experience with policy-based governance and event-driven architectures in reliable, enterprise-grade delivery systems.
- Experience building and managing teams in early-stage contexts, defining processes, and establishing team practices.
- Experience working across functions and moving work forward in ambiguous or fast-changing situations.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills tailored for an asynchronous, remote-first environment.
