An Overview of This Role
As a Senior Professional Services Engineer at GitLab, you will partner with public sector customers to facilitate the successful adoption and expansion of GitLab across their organizations. You will deliver services including installation, migration, training, and advisory engagements, adapting to customer needs from single-node Omnibus installations to larger reference architectures utilizing infrastructure as code and configuration as code.
This role requires a balance of hands-on technical delivery with clear communication and project ownership, guiding customers to make practical choices aligned with their goals, timelines, and environments. You will collaborate closely with project managers and engagement managers to enhance delivery consistency and improve engagement processes. Additionally, you will act as a crucial feedback loop to GitLab's product and engineering teams, communicating insights to improve features and delivery processes. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, managing multiple engagements, and thriving in a remote, largely asynchronous environment.
Project Examples
- Delivering GitLab installations and upgrades using tools like Terraform or Ansible, from simple deployments to highly available architectures.
- Leading migrations from existing systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed GitLab, including planning, execution, and knowledge transfer.
What You'll Do
- Deliver Professional Services engagements (installation, migration, training, advisory services) to ensure successful customer outcomes with GitLab, completing projects on scope and on schedule.
- Plan and execute GitLab deployments across various architectures, from single-node Omnibus installations to large reference architectures using infrastructure as code and configuration as code practices.
- Oversee and perform migrations from multiple source systems to GitLab SaaS or self-managed GitLab, minimizing risk, maintaining momentum, and ensuring minimal disruption during cutovers.
- Provide technical guidance across the GitLab feature stack, helping customers adopt best practices tailored to their goals, constraints, and operating environment.
- Partner with project managers and engagement managers, providing feedback and updates to improve delivery consistency, keep work on schedule, and reduce delivery issues.
- Manage and deliver multiple customer projects concurrently, balancing customer outcomes with billable time and delivery priorities to meet utilization and delivery goals.
- Mentor and assist other Professional Services Engineers by sharing expertise in specific technical areas and contributing to stronger, more repeatable delivery patterns.
- Collaborate with GitLab's product and engineering teams to remove customer blockers and improve GitLab features and delivery processes based on field insights, leading to faster issue resolution and more consistent delivery.
What You'll Bring
- Professional experience with one or more infrastructure as code or configuration as code tools, such as Terraform, Ansible, Packer, Puppet, or Chef.
- Active Secrets or TS/SCI clearance is required for this role due to the nature of the public sector customers youβll support.
- Occasional travel to SCIF sites as needed.
- Desirable locations for candidates with clearance: DC Metro, GA, TX, AL, CO, or UT.
- Ability to support public sector customers with TS/SCI clearance-related requirements for their environments and engagements.
- Ability to lead technical delivery end-to-end, including discovery, planning, documentation, and knowledge transfer.
