About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Duo CLI functional team, you will design and build tools that bring GitLab Duo into developers' daily terminal workflows. You will shape AI-assisted experiences, working primarily in TypeScript across frontend and backend systems, while making key architectural decisions for the CLI's future.
What You’ll Do
- Own Development: Lead the design, implementation, and iteration of GitLab Duo CLI features from problem definition to rollout.
- Build Experiences: Create interactive terminal tools with careful command/flag design, clear output formatting, and scripting-friendly behavior.
- Drive Performance: Improve reliability, observability, and performance metrics while reducing technical debt.
- Collaborate: Work with Product, Design, and engineering teams across the AI Clients stage to align with GitLab's broader strategy.
- Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship, conduct code reviews, and maintain a high bar for quality and security.
- Cross-Platform Contribution: Contribute to IDE extension work, including JetBrains plugins (Kotlin) and VS Code extensions (TypeScript), as needed.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript.
- Experience building or maintaining developer-facing CLI tools.
- Ability to own technical problems end-to-end and make sound architectural trade-offs.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Comfort working in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.

- Bonus: Experience with IDE extension development (JetBrains/VS Code) or Language Server Protocol (LSP).
