
The Opportunity
Grafana Labs is seeking a Director, Legal - Commercial (Americas) to serve as a senior strategic legal partner. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this role focuses on high-impact, revenue-generating transactions and provides leadership to the Americas commercial legal team. This is a player-coach role requiring both hands-on negotiation and team mentorship.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Transaction Leadership: Lead strategy, negotiation, and execution of complex enterprise SaaS, self-managed software, and strategic partnership agreements.
- Strategic Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to sales leadership on deal structuring, legal risk, and commercial strategy.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor attorneys, providing coaching and performance feedback to elevate the team's capabilities.
- Operational Excellence: Develop and improve commercial agreement templates, playbooks, and legal processes to drive scalability.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with product, finance, and sales teams to support new go-to-market models and resolve operational issues.
- AI Integration: Evaluate and leverage AI-enabled legal technologies to improve contracting efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Education: JD or equivalent U.S. law degree and active bar membership in good standing.
- Experience: 10+ years of commercial legal experience in the SaaS industry, with a proven track record of leading high-value enterprise technology transactions.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience managing, mentoring, and developing legal professionals.
- Expertise: Significant experience with data protection/privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA), information security terms, and technology contracting.
- Skills: Exceptional drafting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to balance legal risk against business objectives.
