Staff Backend Engineer - Grafana App Platform

The Opportunity

As our Cloud / Grafana-as-a-service business grows, we are evolving our core architecture to be fully multi-tenant and scalable. We are transforming Grafana into a robust observability app platform where OSS and proprietary apps can integrate directly with dashboards, alerts, incidents, and telemetry.

We are looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to lead the refactoring of our core systems to be simpler and more standardized, ensuring safe rollouts across our global user base.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Development: Code new features, enhance operational experiences, and iteratively improve systems based on production insights.
• Architecture: Author, contribute to, and review design documents while actively shaping the product roadmap.
• Collaboration: Mentor team members and collaborate across squads to align technical plans with stakeholder needs.
• On-Call: Participate in weekday (12h x 5d) and weekend (24h x 2d) on-call rotations.
• AI-Assisted Workflow: Utilize modern AI coding assistants (with a company-funded budget) for prototyping, test generation, and refactoring.

• Technical Expertise: Strong coding skills with significant operational experience; you have a history of operating the software you build.
• Distributed Systems: Proven experience with SaaS platforms, specifically regarding scalability, multi-tenancy, data isolation, and high availability.
• Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to articulate complex ideas clearly.

• Language: Proficiency in Golang, or a strong desire to learn it.
