Staff Software Engineer - Databases SRE

About the Role

Grafana Labs is looking for a Staff Software Engineer - SRE to support our highest-value Grafana Cloud customers. You will focus on increasing the reliability of our cloud databases (Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope) provided as a SaaS product across AWS, GCP, and Azure.

In this embedded role, you will partner with product engineering squads to ensure our database products deliver exceptional reliability for high-SLA customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Production Reliability: Own reliability for high-SLA and complex customer environments.
• Automation: Design and implement automation to scale reliability practices and eliminate toil.
• SLO Management: Define and evolve per-tenant SLOs; proactively reduce SLO burn to prevent incidents.
• Incident Response: Serve as a primary escalation point and on-call engineer; lead incident response and post-incident reviews (PIRs).
• Engineering Leadership: Contribute to design docs, perform code reviews, and influence feature design for scalability and operability.
• Mentorship: Act as a force-multiplier by mentoring team members and teaching SRE best practices.

What We Seek

• 8+ years of engineering experience, with at least 4 years in SRE/CRE or production engineering.
• Strong Kubernetes experience in AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (Helm, Terraform, Jsonnet).
• Experience operating multi-tenant systems in production.
• Strong background in designing and implementing SLOs.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java).
• Deep understanding of Linux internals, networking, and cloud storage.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and experience with blame-free incident response.
• Ability to partner deeply with product engineering teams.
