Description of Duties
We’re looking for a Staff Technical Writer to create documentation and learning content that helps people adopt and master Grafana’s observability products. You’ll work with engineers, product managers, and the Grafana writing team to produce content for a range of products and audiences.
AI is part of how this team works. We use AI-assisted workflows and tools throughout the content lifecycle, from research and drafting to review, validation, and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, research, write, and maintain documentation and learning content (concepts, tasks, tutorials, references, and in-product learning) to support product adoption and mastery.
- Use AI tools and workflows to work faster and at a higher quality: drafting, structuring, technical validation, consistency checks, and keeping content current.
- Contribute to the team’s shared AI workflows and skills, looking for ways to improve and automate content creation.
- Partner with engineers, PMs, and stakeholders to translate complex technical detail into clear, accurate content.
- Test what you document by running the software, following your own procedures, and flagging product and UX gaps.
- Use documentation analytics and user feedback to find content gaps, prioritize work, and measure impact.
- Collaborate to improve information architecture, voice, and consistency across documentation.
- Manage multiple projects concurrently and communicate effectively when plans change.
- Mentor teammates and share best practices to raise team quality.
Requirements
- Experience writing or documenting enterprise or developer-facing software, demonstrated with a portfolio or writing samples.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools and models in a writing workflow (such as LLM assistants, agentic coding tools, or custom prompts).
- Experience working with docs-as-code: command-line Git, GitHub (pull requests and reviews), Markdown, and common IDEs.
- Comfort working in technical environments; ability to set up, run, and troubleshoot software (e.g., command line, containers, Kubernetes).
- Experience collaborating with engineers and product managers for technical accuracy.
- Experience working remotely and asynchronously on a distributed team.
What We Offer
- 100% remote, global culture with team members across 40+ countries.
- Global annual leave policy of 30 days per annum (including Grafana Shutdown Days).
- Competitive compensation package including equity and bonus opportunities.
