Staff Product Manager - Honeycomb

About Honeycomb

Honeycomb is a service defining observability and raising expectations of what developer tools can do. We work with companies like HelloFresh, Slack, LaunchDarkly, and Vanguard across a range of industries. We have closed Series D funding, scaled past 200 team members, and were recognized on Forbes' America’s Best Startups.

We are a fully distributed company—it is not where you sit, but how you deliver that matters most. We provide significant trust, autonomy, and accountability from Day 1.

About the Role & Team

You will be the Product Manager for our Canvas and Agentic AI teams, driving Honeycomb's AI-powered investigation experience. Canvas enables engineers to query, visualize, and understand production systems using natural language. Beyond chat, we are building Skills (pre-configured workflows encoding domain expertise), Auto-Investigations (agent-driven triage kicking off before human escalation), and a collaborative, interactive Canvas architecture.

You will work in a triad with engineering and design leads, owning the roadmap for AI across Honeycomb from the UI to our MCP server. You will partner with our Director of AI Strategy, R&D teams, and go-to-market teams to balance rapid technical innovation with real customer workflows.

Responsibilities

Define AI Product Strategy

  • Synthesize AI trends, customer needs, and technical capabilities into clear strategic recommendations.
  • Help the product organization evaluate where AI drives genuine value versus hype.
  • Identify emerging observability challenges introduced by AI adoption (e.g., LLM drift, prompt regression, low-context generated code).
  • Place informed bets on AI technologies and methodologies that warrant investment.

Research & Customer Insights

  • Build deep understanding of how customer engineering teams adopt AI.
  • Uncover patterns across customer conversations to identify future market needs.
  • Stay current with AI/ML developments (RAG, fine-tuning, agentic workflows) and apply their implications to observability.
  • Engage with technical communities, researchers, and early adopters to identify early trends.

Enable Portfolio-Wide Innovation

  • Partner with product teams to discover high-leverage AI opportunities.
  • Provide guidance on AI approaches, trade-offs, and best practices.
  • Help teams align with broad AI strategy while leveraging shared capabilities.
  • Synthesize cross-portfolio learnings and share findings across the organization.

Evangelize AI Observability

  • Articulate Honeycomb's perspective on AI observability internally and externally.
  • Help customers understand evolving observability requirements in AI-heavy environments.
  • Contribute to thought leadership via technical writing, speaking, and community involvement.
  • Build credibility with technical audiences.

Qualifications

  • AI Product Experience: 5+ years in product management with at least 1+ years shipping AI/ML-powered products. Proven track record of taking AI features from concept to production impact.
  • Engineering Fluency: Deep understanding of how engineering teams build, deploy, and operate AI systems, alongside familiarity with modern techniques (RAG, fine-tuning, model selection).
  • Strategic & Analytical Judgment: Ability to synthesize signals from ambiguous environments and make confident prioritization decisions (including knowing when to say "no").
  • Technical Credibility: Enough technical depth to partner closely with senior engineers and architects, paired with curiosity and humility.
  • Communication & Influence: Excellent written and verbal communication skills across technical, executive, and customer audiences.
  • Continuous Learning: Demonstrated ability to keep pace with the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
