About The Role

At Jane, the Payments team is responsible for how clinics collect revenue. This work is deeply connected to Jane's mission to help the helpers, as smooth and reliable payment collection is crucial for clinics to focus on patient care. A significant portion of Jane's revenue flows through these systems, making it one of the most business-critical areas at Jane.

The team recently built core payments infrastructure and is now focused on delivering customer-facing value, including IC+ pricing, surcharging, and payment automation. This is meaningful, foundational work with significant scope.

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer who primarily focuses on backend development but is eager to grow across the stack. This individual should understand the nuances of payments and genuinely care about the value delivered to clinics. Key attributes include strong architecture instincts, a bias to action, and an open, energetic communication style that supports a distributed team. If you appreciate the intricacies of payment systems and want your work to have a tangible impact, you will fit in well.

What Impact We're Looking for You to Make

• Build customer-facing features that leverage our payments infrastructure, such as IC+ pricing, surcharging, and payment automation.
• Apply strong enterprise architecture patterns to design and scale payment systems, ensuring reliability as capabilities grow.
• Communicate proactively and frequently in team channels, sharing context, identifying risks, and maintaining alignment within a distributed environment. We prioritize over-communication.
• Demonstrate a bias to action, collaborating closely with product to move work from concept to shipped, measurable outcomes.
• Integrate AI tools into your daily workflow and contribute to raising the team's standard for software development. Experience with AI across the software development lifecycle is highly valued.

What Experience We Need

• 8+ years of professional software development experience, with strong backend expertise and a solid grasp of enterprise architecture patterns.
• Experience building and maintaining production-grade systems, ideally within SaaS environments.
• Comfort working across the stack, or a genuine desire to grow into full-stack development.
• A strong bias to action combined with an open, energetic, and collaborative communication style. This team thrives on engagement, connection, and generous sharing.
• Enthusiasm for AI and hands-on experience using it in your work. AI software development lifecycle experience is a significant plus.
• Ruby on Rails experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement, but would facilitate a quicker ramp-up.
• Experience with payments or financial systems is a plus, as is experience in related areas like mortgage technology, property technology, or loyalty and benefit card systems. A genuine interest in this domain and its mechanics is paramount.

Compensation & Benefits

Jane is committed to fair, clear, and growth-oriented compensation. This role has an annual salary range of $128,000 to $200,000. This broad range reflects the full growth journey within the role, from developing initial skills to achieving high proficiency and excellence.

Most new hires typically join at the accomplished stage, which for this role corresponds to an annual salary of $152,000. A starting salary below this usually indicates a candidate with strong potential who is still developing key skills. Salaries above this are generally for existing team members who have made significant impact and possess deep Jane-specific knowledge.
