About KOHO
Weβre on a mission to make financial services better for every Canadian. That means no hidden fees, no predatory interest rates - just financial products designed to help our users spend smart, save more, and build real wealth. Weβre a performance organization with a strong heart: we care deeply about outcomes, and everything ties back to our mission - to financially empower a generation of Canadians.
At KOHO, weβre not your average 9-5. We believe real impact comes from people who are trusted, empowered, and supported to do their best work - without sacrificing their lives to do it. We prioritize work-life integration, not just work-life balance. That means asynchronous collaboration, flexible hours, and a remote-first setup built around autonomy and high trust.
About The Role
As Engineering Manager, Platform, you'll lead a full-stack platform team that owns KOHO's mobile and web platform (how our mobile app gets released and our frontend developer tooling), internal tooling, and the risk domain. You'll report directly to the Senior Manager, Platform Engineering, collaborate closely with peer platform and feature teams, and manage key stakeholders including Risk, Product, and Security.
Your Mission π―
- Build and lead a high-performing platform team: Manage a team of full-stack engineers (employees and partner contractors), set clear expectations, create real career growth paths, and maintain a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
- Own the Mobile and Web platform: Lead how our mobile app gets released, from build pipelines and release trains to app store submissions, phased rollouts, and feature flagging, and keep our web platform healthy and scalable.
- Raise frontend developer experience, with AI at the core: Invest in frontend tooling, shared components, CI/CD, testing, and AI-assisted workflows.
- Own internal tooling: Deliver and maintain the internal tools our operations, support, and business teams rely on, treating them as products with real users.
- Own the risk domain: Lead your team's ownership of risk-related systems and experiences, partnering with Risk and Compliance stakeholders.
- Manage key vendors: Own relationships with third-party vendors in your domain through performance, cost, contract renewals, and migrations.
- Own stability & production health: Keep your team's systems reliable through strong observability, a healthy support rotation, and effective incident response.
- Collaborate across the platform: Work closely with the authentication and authorization team on initiatives that touch the mobile and web experience.
What You'll Bring π‘
- Strong full-stack engineering roots: 5+ years building and operating production software across web or mobile frontends and backend services.
- Proven people leadership: 1-3 years managing an engineering team (3-6 people), with demonstrated success coaching engineers, hiring, and building an inclusive culture.
- Production ownership: A track record of owning critical customer-facing or business-critical systems and leading teams calmly through incidents.
- Vendor management: Experience owning third-party vendor relationships and making build-versus-buy decisions.
- Ambiguity navigation: Ability to take high-level business objectives and turn them into actionable plans.
- Communication skills: Exceptional clarity in explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
