About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our growing Consumer team. The Consumer team at Kraken focuses on building applications that expose Kraken's product offering to the mass market—onboarding the next 100 million people to crypto.

This role involves setting the technical direction for our Consumer applications and delivering complex backend components yourself. You will own architecture, drive cross-team initiatives, and leverage AI extensively to increase engineering leverage.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and delivery of customer-facing Rust backend services powering trading, payments, and crypto experiences.
• Take ambiguous, multi-quarter problems from concept to shipped and measured products.
• Own features end-to-end across customer experience, frontend impact, and underlying technical services.
• Partner with product leadership to shape the technical roadmap and business outcomes.
• Drive initiatives across Kraken's trading infrastructure, platform, and product teams.
• Mentor mid-level engineers, conduct design reviews, and establish high engineering standards.
• Extensively incorporate AI into your workflow to amplify productivity and guide the team on AI-assisted engineering.

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience with deep proficiency in Rust, asynchronous code, and distributed systems design (RPC, Kafka, event-driven architectures).
• Track record of architectural ownership and production decisions in distributed systems.
• Product engineering mindset with strong user-centric focus and metric orientation.
• Demonstrated impact mentoring engineers, reviewing technical designs, and setting engineering standards.
• Experience driving alignment and execution across cross-functional or multi-team initiatives.
• AI-first development approach, using AI tools for coding, system architecture, and verification.

Nice to Haves

• Full-stack experience including React/TypeScript or other frontend frameworks.
• Domain knowledge in cryptocurrency or blockchain technology.
• Experience building and scaling consumer technology products at scale.
• Experience introducing AI workflows to engineering teams.
