Database Migrations Engineer - EMEA

Laravel Cloud is our managed PaaS, and enterprise customers moving onto it face a common, stubborn blocker: database migration. We need someone who solves that problem directly.

Why This Job Is Unique

• Direct Customer Impact: You will be on calls with enterprise customers and run migrations with them, owning technical execution directly alongside the customer.
• Ongoing Function Ownership: You will take ownership of existing database migration work, including the PlanetScale relationship and recurring ad-hoc requests.
• Productise the Practice: Rather than waiting for a predefined menu, you will develop the function in practice, learning what customers need and productising repeatable patterns.
• Knowledge Sharing: Immediate pain relief followed by team enablement. You will build documentation, runbooks, and lightweight training so Sales, CS, and engineering compound on your expertise.

What You Will Do

• Execute database migrations (primarily MySQL and Postgres) with enterprise and Private Cloud customers onboarding to Laravel Cloud.
• Assume ownership of the PlanetScale relationship and migration work.
• Productise repeatable migration patterns (documentation, decision logic, edge cases) and prepare knowledge for future self-serve in-product workflows.
• Automate recurring migration requests surfacing across channels.
• Act as a generalist migration resource for broader application and service migrations onto Private Cloud.
• Write clear runbooks and reference materials to enable Sales, CS, and Engineering teams.
• Monitor market alternatives (PlanetScale, Aurora, Percona) regarding pricing, capabilities, and instance classes to keep Laravel Cloud competitive.

What We Are Looking For

• Genuine strength across both MySQL and Postgres (~80% capability in each).
• Direct experience running database migrations in a customer-facing capacity.
• Strong productisation instinct to package bespoke work into repeatable flows.
• Excellent written and async communication skills.
• Comfort shaping and defining the scope of an evolving function.

Nice to Have

• Experience at a database tooling or infrastructure company (PlanetScale, Percona, Vitess, etc.).
• Experience building tooling or automation around migration workflows.
• Familiarity with AWS-based infrastructure or PaaS environments.
• Experience with AWS DMS or comparable migration tooling.
• Track record of writing, speaking, or teaching publicly about database topics.
• Familiarity with PHP applications.
