Fully remoteFull-timeSenior$201K - $251KUTC-8โ€“-4Americas#SQL#Python#experimentationEquityRSUs

At Mercury, we believe in the power of data to build great technology. We're seeking Data Scientists to help us construct our analytics engine by extracting meaning from data and identifying opportunities for improvement.

As a Growth Data Scientist, you will collaborate with Growth product, design, engineering, and marketing leaders to shape how Mercury acquires, activates, and retains customers across business and personal banking. This is a strategic, product-facing role where you'll frame the "why" behind what we build, size opportunities, and translate the growth funnel into clear, prioritized recommendations. You will operate as a full-stack Data Scientist, owning projects end-to-end and developing deep domain expertise at the intersection of Data Science, Product, and Growth. You will play a key role in defining how Growth measures success and allocates investment, aligning with Mercury's broader product and company goals.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Growth product, design, engineering, and marketing leaders to identify the highest-impact business questions and influence product development and strategy.
  • Own the entire growth funnel, from first visit through signup, approval, activation, and retention. This includes building metrics, driver trees, and narratives to highlight successes and areas for improvement.
  • Size opportunities and contribute to prioritizing the Growth roadmap and annual planning, providing clear recommendations even with incomplete data.
  • Design, analyze, and communicate experiments (A/B tests and quasi-experimental methods) to inform teams whether changes were effective and what next steps to take.
  • Right-size your work to the decision at hand: fast and directional when needed, rigorous when stakes are high.
  • Collaborate with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Analytics Engineers to build trusted, self-serve growth metrics.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to all levels of the organization, including executives, with a clear point of view that enhances entrepreneursโ€™ lives and generates revenue for Mercury.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in data science, product analytics, or growth analytics, including 3+ years partnering closely with product growth teams.
  • Strong product sense and a proven track record of shaping product direction, not just measuring it, including instances where your work directly influenced team builds.
  • Deep experience with experiment design and analysis, as well as funnel, cohort, and retention analysis.
  • Fluency in SQL and a statistical programming language (e.g., Python, R).
  • Experience with product analytics and BI tools such as Amplitude, Hex, Omni, or similar; familiarity with Snowflake and dbt is a plus.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and capable of respectfully disagreeing with senior stakeholders, backed by evidence.
  • A clear, concise communicator who leads with the main point and tailors messages for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Nice to have: Experience in consumer or SMB fintech, or with mobile product analytics.
