Senior Design Manager - Core Experiences

At Mercury, we want to do more than add AI to interfaces designed for another era. We want to thoughtfully evolve how Mercury feels to use, creating experiences that are intelligent without being inscrutable, proactive without being intrusive, and distinctly Mercury.

You’ll lead the product designers responsible for some of Mercury’s core experiences and establish a point of view for how our interfaces should evolve as the possibilities of software change. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, and Design Systems to turn emerging interaction ideas into coherent, reusable patterns, while building a team known for exceptional product thinking and craft.

Our design organization consists of 40+ people who love solving complex problems through design and are equally passionate about cultivating, guiding, and inspiring one another.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and evolve Mercury’s interaction philosophy, focusing on AI-native, conversational, adaptive, and proactive experiences across products.
• Set an exceptional bar for product quality across mobile, dashboard, and agentic product interfaces.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of product designers in an environment encouraging creative risks and strong points of view.
• Shape product strategy alongside Product and Engineering by bringing design into ambiguous problems early.
• Stay close to the work using critique, prototyping, exploration, and hands-on collaboration.
• Raise the craft and product-thinking bar of the broader Design organization by sharing frameworks and perspectives.

• Strong point of view on AI-native interfaces: Deep thinking about how AI changes human-software relationships and active experimentation with conversational/adaptive interaction models.
• Craft-obsessed design leadership: Proven experience leading and developing product designers while staying close to the execution.
• Systems thinking: Ability to see beyond individual screens to patterns, information architecture, behaviors, and principles.
