Mercury is building the financial and banking products founders actually want: fast, intuitive, and crafted to help them do more with their money. As AI changes how companies are built and run, we’re rethinking what Mercury can do for the people running them. We’re looking for a Tech Communications Lead to tell that story and make Mercury the company founders, builders, and the broader tech world think of when it comes to AI and innovation in finance and banking.

In this role, you will report to our Head of Comms and own how the world understands Mercury’s approach to technology and AI. You’ll turn what our product and AI teams are building into stories that resonate with customers, prospects, future teammates, and investors, placing our leaders in key conversations.

Mercury is a fintech company, not an FDIC-insured bank. Banking services provided through Choice Financial Group and Column N.A., Members FDIC.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own Mercury’s technology, AI, and innovation narrative, translating complex product and engineering work into clear, compelling stories for founders, SMBs, and the tech community.
  • Partner closely with our co-founder and senior product and AI leaders to build their thought leadership platforms, including messaging, talking points, bylines, and social presence.
  • Build and run an integrated comms program across podcasts, speaking opportunities, events, owned content, social media, and press to grow Mercury’s reputation in AI and innovation.
  • Identify and secure high-impact podcast, conference, and media opportunities that put leadership in front of customers, prospects, talent, and investors.
  • Lead comms for product and AI launches in partnership with product marketing, ensuring every launch ladders up to a cohesive innovation story.
  • Cultivate relationships with tech, AI, and startup journalists, creators, and podcast hosts.
  • Create and edit content such as blog posts, executive social posts, talks, and briefing docs, coaching spokespeople to deliver them with confidence.
  • Keep a pulse on the AI and fintech landscape, spotting trends, competitive moves, and moments where Mercury can lead the conversation.
  • Measure performance and use insights to sharpen communication strategy over time.
  • Leverage AI tools to scale team output and experiment with new formats, workflows, and audience engagement.

Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience in communications with significant time spent on tech, product, or AI storytelling at a high-growth startup or tech company.
  • Hands-on, fluent user of AI tools in your workflow (research, workflow automation, content) to scale comms initiatives.
  • Proven track record of building executive and founder thought leadership programs, especially across podcasts, speaking engagements, and social platforms.
  • Ability to translate technical concepts like AI products and infrastructure into clear, engaging, and accurate narratives.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with a sharp sense of narrative and voice.
  • Strong existing relationships or demonstrated ability to build relationships with tech/AI media, podcasters, and creators.
  • Comfortable working directly with founders and senior leaders, earning trust and providing candid counsel.
  • Scrappy, resourceful builder energized by creating programs from scratch in a fast-moving environment.
  • Genuine curiosity about AI, startups, and the founder journey.
  • Experience in fintech or communicating with founder and SMB audiences is a plus.
