About Mozilla
Mozilla Corporation, a non-profit-backed technology company, has been dedicated to shaping a better internet for over 25 years. We are the creators of pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-focused web browser. With over 225 million monthly users, we are committed to building an internet for people, not corporations, focusing on areas like AI, social media, and security.
Our unique structure, wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation, ensures we are mission-driven, not shareholder-driven. We collaborate with thousands of contributors worldwide to develop and distribute open-source software that empowers users to control their internet experience.
About the Team and Role
Mozilla's mission is to champion the internet as a global public resource, balancing our mission with market success. Our global public policy team works to shape laws and regulations that support open-source technologies, enhance user privacy and choice, and foster fair competition. We are seeking an experienced Policy Communications Europe Lead to shape the public narrative around our browser, Firefox, and its engine, Gecko, ensuring the web remains open.
This pivotal role involves translating complex policy positions into compelling stories that proactively influence the debate on privacy, AI, open source, competition, and internet policy. You will drive Mozilla's media voice across Europe, build narratives, cultivate media relationships, and establish credibility with key stakeholders.
What You'll Do:
- Sit within the Policy & Comms organization, reporting to the Europe Policy Lead.
- Focus on Europe as the primary region, with the flexibility to contribute to emerging markets.
- Translate policy strategy into public narratives that advance our products and advocacy efforts.
- Own and drive Mozilla's proactive media narrative on key policy areas, anticipating debates rather than reacting to them.
- Place and amplify thought leadership content to reach target audiences.
- Act as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to communications colleagues and senior leadership.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, legal, product, and engineering teams to differentiate Mozilla's voice from "Big Tech."
- Build and maintain relationships with journalists, policymakers, industry leaders, and advocacy organizations.
- Craft a variety of communication materials, including press releases, blog posts, op-eds, and executive briefing documents.
- Prepare and train spokespeople for high-stakes engagements.
- Monitor and respond to external developments, identifying opportunities and managing risks.
- Shape public policy positioning for product initiatives, launches, and advocacy campaigns.
- Work with the broader communications team and agency partners to ensure clarity and alignment.
- Provide counsel and serve as an escalation point in complex or crisis policy scenarios.
What You'll Bring:
- 5-10 years of experience in policy communications, media relations, or related fields, preferably in technology, advocacy, or policy-driven environments.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to distill complex information into clear, impactful narratives.
- Deep understanding of technology policy issues such as privacy, data, AI, competition, digital rights, open source, and internet regulation.
- Proven track record of building strong relationships with journalists, policymakers, and policy-focused organizations.
- Experience advising and supporting senior executives on high-profile communications and issues management.
- Strategic thinking, operational rigor, and adaptability to change.
- Comfort working in a global, remote, and mission-driven organization.
- Experience supporting product communications and collaborating with technical teams.
- Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution.
- Passion for Mozilla's mission to make the internet safer, more open, and more human.
Bonus Points For:
- Experience in both in-house and agency settings.
- Proficiency in additional languages, particularly French and German.
- Prior experience in open-source, civil society, or non-profit tech environments.
What You'll Get:

- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
- Generous retirement contributions with 100% immediate vesting.
- Quarterly all-company wellness days.
- Country-specific holidays plus a day off for your birthday.
