Senior Software Engineer, Data Engineering - Omada Health

Omada Health is on a mission to bend the curve of chronic disease. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a critical part in designing, building, and maintaining robust data architectures, data models, and pipelines to ensure the integrity, scalability, and performance of our data platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Architecture: Design, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and efficient data solutions that meet organizational needs.
  • Data Modeling: Create and maintain logical and physical data models to support business intelligence, analytics, and reporting requirements.
  • Pipeline Engineering: Design, build, and optimize ETL/ELT processes and data pipelines to ensure smooth data flow.
  • Data Integration: Integrate diverse data sources (APIs, databases, third-party data) into a unified platform.
  • Performance Optimization: Monitor and optimize data systems and pipeline performance for low latency and high throughput.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Implement quality checks, validation processes, and governance frameworks to guarantee data accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaboration & Technical Leadership: Partner closely with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders; train teammates and establish best practices and department-wide procedures.
  • Production Management: Monitor and manage the production environment to deliver data within defined SLAs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience building, maintaining, and orchestrating scalable data pipelines.
  • 3+ years of experience as a data engineer developing or maintaining integration with software such as Airflow or any Python-based data pipeline codebase.
  • Experience in backend software development, distributed computing, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling for OLTP and OLAP applications.
  • Experience implementing data pipelines and optimizing ETL processes and SQL queries.
  • Experience working with sensitive data (PHI / PII) and security best practices.
  • Knowledge of data governance practices and principles.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a similar discipline preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Languages & Databases: Python, Java, or Scala; SQL, Relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL), and MPP databases (Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake).
  • Data Modeling: 3NF modeling techniques and tools (e.g., ER/Studio, ERwin).
  • Big Data & Ecosystem: Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Iceberg, Delta Lake, or AWS Lambda.
  • Engineering Mindset: Strong application of software engineering best practices, maintainable code, and automated testing.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., document and graph databases).
  • Experience building internal data infrastructure, frameworks, or automation tools.
  • Experience using Generative AI tools to improve engineering workflows, analytics, or platform capabilities.
