About the Role
Ontra is seeking a Senior Legal Engineer to focus on our AI-native services and Contract Automation businesses. This multifaceted role involves prompt engineering, legal workflow design, product advising, and building AI-powered legal solutions. You will collaborate with product and service delivery teams, and clients to develop AI-powered legal workflows, create enablement materials, monitor industry trends, and drive operational efficiency through AI.
What You'll Do
- Product Development Collaboration: Work with Product and service delivery teams to develop and refine contract review, drafting, and negotiation workflows.
- Enablement Material Creation: Develop and deliver training materials (webinars, 1:1 training, self-directed courses) for employees and legal network members on contract workflows and AI use.
- Market Monitoring: Track trends in legal AI, contract automation, and legal service delivery to inform workflow improvements.
- Efficiency Initiatives: Pilot AI-first legal workflows, evaluate outputs against legal playbooks, and measure quality and turnaround time. Experiment with prompts and prototypes, and iterate quickly.
- Stakeholder Consultation: Serve as a technical subject matter expert, providing consulting support on AI-native services and Contract Automation projects, and participating in meetings with product managers, development teams, and clients.
What You'll Bring
- Experience: 3+ years of directly relevant legal experience with a focus on transactional law. Experience drafting, reviewing, or negotiating commercial contracts (NDAs, vendor contracts) and conducting M&A due diligence is a plus. Experience in private practice or in-house at an investment bank or asset manager is also a plus.
- Education: JD, LLM, or LLB (US qualifications preferred but not mandatory).
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; customer-facing experience is advantageous.
- Skills: Demonstrated organizational excellence, high ownership, proactive problem-solving, teamwork, and results orientation.
- AI Experience: Hands-on use of AI tools (e.g., Claude, GPT, Harvey, Legora) in professional work. Ability to refine prompts, check outputs for accuracy, and recognize when human legal judgment is needed.
- AI Workflow Building: Experience building reusable AI skills or custom workflows, or experimenting with tools like Codex or Claude Code is preferred. Coding experience is not required.
