Senior Site Reliability Engineer (Systems Engineer III) - Ophelia

Ophelia helps people end their opioid use and restore their quality of life with respect for their time and dignity. Our mission is to make evidence-based treatments for opioid use disorder (OUD) accessible to everyone by providing FDA-approved medication and clinical care through a discreet, convenient, and affordable telehealth platform.

About the Role

As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SE III) at Ophelia, you will be our dedicated reliability, availability, and performance hire. You will play a key role in making the systems supporting our mission stable, observable, and fast. Our stack is TypeScript on Node, React, and Firebase (Firestore, Authentication, Hosting) running on Cloud Run in Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

You will own and drive our system stability and availability initiative. You will define and operationalize SLOs, build logging and monitoring grounded in sound measurement, migrate incident response to PagerDuty, expand infrastructure as code (IaC), and address known pain points like long-latency endpoints and Cloud Run cold starts. You will also partner with IT on IAM hardening, secrets management, audit logging, and HIPAA/SOC 2 infrastructure controls, serving as the directly responsible individual (DRI) for MTTR and availability KPIs.

Responsibilities

  • Own reliability, availability, and performance: Manage the GCP platform, operationalize SLOs/SLIs, and maintain disaster recovery posture (e.g., Firestore backup/restore, RPO/RTO, multi-region resilience).
  • Build observability and incident response: Expand GCP Cloud Operations setups, migrate alerting to PagerDuty, participate in on-call rotation, and develop an AI-assisted tier-one triage process.
  • Grow infrastructure as code and delivery: Expand Terraform adoption across GCP configuration and optimize GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines for safe, frequent deployments.
  • Harden security and compliance: Collaborate with the Head of IT to implement and maintain HIPAA and SOC 2 infrastructure controls.
  • Multiply the team: Level up fullstack engineers' DevOps and GCP practices through documentation, runbooks, code reviews, pairing, and practical AI tooling adoption.
  • Drive autonomous ownership: Lead infrastructure initiatives end-to-end within a remote, growth-stage healthcare environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • 5+ years of software/systems engineering experience, including 3+ years focused on cloud infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE roles.
  • Expert-level GCP fluency, with deep knowledge of Cloud Run, Cloud Operations (Logging, Monitoring, Alerting), IAM, and Firebase/Firestore.
  • Strong Terraform and IaC proficiency.
  • Proficiency in infrastructure scripting: Advanced skills in Python (or another infrastructure language) and shell scripting, with the ability to read and debug Node/TypeScript application code.
  • Production operations and SRE experience: Leading incidents, participating in on-call rotations, conducting blameless postmortems, and designing SLOs/error budgets.
  • Quantitative systems thinking: Practical experience with percentile tail latency, time-series data, and burn-rate alerting.
  • AI-augmented workflow: Hands-on experience utilizing AI tools (e.g., Claude Code) to accelerate infrastructure scripting, runbooks, and log analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for expanding access to evidence-based addiction treatment.
  • Background working in healthcare or regulated environments requiring HIPAA or SOC 2 compliance.

Benefits

  • Competitive medical, vision, and health insurance (many plans fully employer-covered)
  • 20 days (4 weeks) PTO to start, scaling up to 6 weeks based on tenure
  • 10 paid company holidays
  • Work-from-home stipend
  • 401(k) contribution program
  • Additional benefits: life insurance, short- and long-term disability, financial wellness, and virtual primary care
