Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Oyster's in-house payroll team and take ownership of our Dutch payroll operations. As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing for our Dutch employees. You will work closely with our AFAS processes and contribute to achieving best-in-class payroll standards at scale.

Core Responsibilities

  • Process Payroll: Accurately produce assigned Dutch payroll cycles in-house, ensuring compliance and timeliness.
  • Master Data Management: Process and verify employee payroll master data, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, benefits, and absences.
  • Payroll Controls & Quality: Conduct pre- and post-payroll validations, meticulously checking your work and flagging any discrepancies.
  • Statutory Filings: Manage monthly loonaangifte filings, UWV wage declarations, annual jaarloonopgaaf, and Ziektewet/WAZO reimbursement claims. Maintain employee loonheffingskorting data and support government access setup.
  • System Procedures: Follow defined steps for payroll system maintenance, test legislative updates, and report issues or suggestions.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Learn and apply Dutch wage tax, social insurance, labor law, and CAO regulations to your work.
  • Reconciliation: Verify payroll journals and GL mappings against outputs, identifying and flagging data integrity issues.
  • Ticket Handling: Address assigned client payroll tickets efficiently and escalate complex issues with clear context.
  • Reporting: Prepare statutory and ad-hoc reports, including those for EU Pay Transparency Directive, Ondernemingsraad (OR), and AVG/GDPR compliance.
  • Audits: Provide structured data and documentation to support internal and external audits.
  • Team Support: Adhere to SOPs, identify gaps, share knowledge, and support peers.

Minimum Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience running native Dutch payroll processes independently.
  • Hands-on experience with AFAS, Nmbrs by Visma, or Loket.nl.
  • Completed Praktijkdiploma Loonadministratie (PDL) and/or NIRPA Register Salarisadministrateur (RSa) registration.
  • Working knowledge of Dutch wage tax, social insurance, and labor law.
  • Dutch at C1/C2 level and fluent English.
  • Comfortable handling client queries and escalating appropriately.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong ability to check your own work.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and escalate issues outside your scope.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues.
  • Comfortable working asynchronously in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Broader accounting background or qualification.
  • Experience with cross-functional HR/Payroll projects.
  • Experience with AI tools for payroll optimization.
  • Strong data transformation and analytics skills.
