✨ One platform, a whole world of opportunity
Oyster is building a global employment platform that lets companies hire, pay, and care for brilliant people anywhere, closing the gap between talent and opportunity.
We're a remote-first company, distributed across 60+ countries, and have been recognized for our innovative approach and high-performing culture.
👩💻 The Role
This is a fully remote position, and you can work from home permanently. The role requires you to be based within +4 / +0 UTC.
Oyster’s Platform Flow Engineering team builds the systems and tooling that enable our engineers to ship software quickly, safely, and reliably at scale. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will shape the platform capabilities that bridge code and production, encompassing CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, observability, developer tooling, and operational workflows.
You will collaborate closely with application and security engineers to simplify infrastructure, enhance developer experiences, and establish scalable, secure foundations. A key aspect of this role will be exploring practical applications of AI to boost developer productivity, automate operational workflows, and reduce engineering toil.
Key Responsibilities
- Build a world-class developer experience: Design and maintain internal tooling, packages, and abstractions that provide simple, self-service paths for engineers, reducing infrastructure complexity and operational toil.
- Own the path from commit to production: Build, operate, and continuously improve reliable, automated CI/CD pipelines that empower engineers to ship safely, frequently, and with confidence.
- Evolve our cloud platform: Operate and improve Oyster’s AWS infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code, focusing on scalability, availability, security, and cost efficiency.
- Improve reliability and observability: Apply SRE principles, observability, and effective incident-management practices to minimize outages, accelerate recovery, and identify opportunities to eliminate recurring operational work.
- Accelerate engineering with AI: Identify and implement practical ways to leverage AI, automation, and intelligent tooling to enhance developer productivity, expedite incident diagnosis, automate repetitive workflows, and reduce operational toil.
- Build platform capabilities as a product: Understand the needs of internal engineering teams, transform recurring pain points into scalable platform solutions, and utilize feedback and metrics for continuous improvement of the developer experience.
- Partner closely with engineering: Collaborate openly with application, security, and infrastructure teams to diagnose issues, support incident response, and assist teams in adopting reliable and secure software development and operation practices.
Core Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Infrastructure Engineering, or a similar production engineering role.
- Strong software development experience, with the ability to build maintainable automation, tooling, and platform abstractions.
- Proven experience designing and operating production systems on AWS.
- Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform or an equivalent technology.
- Hands-on experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and production debugging using tools such as Datadog, Sentry, or equivalent technologies.
- Strong understanding of reliability, incident response, and operational best practices.
- A platform mindset: you view internal engineering teams as customers and seek ways to reduce their cognitive load and make the safe path the easy path.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly in remote, asynchronous engineering environments.
Bonus Points
- Experience building or evolving internal developer platforms, golden paths, or self-service infrastructure.
- Experience using AI coding assistants, agents, or AI-powered developer tooling to improve engineering productivity or automate infrastructure and operational workflows.
- Experience with Ruby on Rails.
- Experience with Harness, Drone, or other modern CI/CD platforms.
- Experience automating Heroku, Render, or similar application platforms through Terraform or scripted workflows.
- Experience improving macOS and Linux developer environments through automation and tooling.
- Experience working in remote-first, globally distributed teams.
You'll also need
- A reliable home internet connection (or be able to get one).
- Fluent English language skills.
